McDonald’s have commenced trialling Ai-powered drive through technology at their Schofields store in Western Sydney.

My local fish and chippy, or charcoal chicken, pie shop etc have not, so that’s why I go there instead of Maccas. Hopefully there will be a push back and the locals can get the business they need.

On the very odd occasion i go to McDonald’s, i go in store, and go to the counter to order. Not a fan of the 10 screens at front to order. I am still old school.

And it starts… more job loses.

The headline states no job losses.

Headlines never lie .

I’ve had a few instances where my order has been incorrectly filled, whether they’ve misheard me or typed it in correctly… a screen reduces the chances of that happening. Not specifically at McDonald’s.

Otherwise I prefer to be served by a person. But the chances of that happening in places like supermarkets is like 1%.

Fishbowl chain is changing its name to Thisbowl.

If salad and rice bowl chain Fishbowl were to start all over again, there are a few things that would look a little different. The name, for starters. “We wouldn’t call ourselves Fishbowl,” said co-founder Nic Pestalozzi. “It’s suggestive of what we were in 2016. But it’s not reflective of what we’re serving today.”

The nationwide rebrand of the Asian-inspired, made-to-order food chain to Thisbowl will kick off at the freshly revamped store in Bondi, where Fishbowl was founded in 2016. About 19 other stores will sport the new name on Tuesday, with others to undergo the conversion by mid-October.

There were three protein options on offer when twenty-something mates and university drop-outs Pestalozzi, Casper Ettelson and Nathan Dalah started making salads in a 26-square-metre outlet in Bondi: kingfish, salmon and tuna. Prawns and octopus were introduced some time after but have already disappeared from the menu. Ten years and more than 60 new stores later, salmon is the only seafood protein that remains and makes up less than 30 per cent of orders as customers opt for chicken and beef.

I wish I had a chance to try the kingfish bowl.

The new McDonalds ad is incredibly irritating.

Why is an Australian actor putting on an American accent in an ad targeting Australians?

Indeed. Very annoying.

Byrdi – ranked 91st in last year’s World’s 50 Best Bars longlist – has shut after seven years in Melbourne Central food court.

In West Melbourne, six-year-old craft beer bar Benchwarmer also called last drinks in mid-September.

This winter also saw the shuttering of two of the city’s hatted restaurants. Scott Pickett’s South Yarra fine diner Matilda closed to become Kiki’s Tavern, an all-day eatery by Julien Moussi’s Venues by Only group. Destination diner No. 7 Healesville had its final service on August 16, wrapping up seven years in the Yarra Valley.

McDonald’s will launch a new Nashville range from tomorrow (September 30).

Also, Maccas is bringing back All Day Breakfast to its Victorian restaurants on the same day as part of a limited time trial.

Launching today:

Edit: the cheesy burger range is not available at HJ stores in Darling Downs, Plainland and Kingaroy in South East Queensland.

McDonald’s Birdie comeback shot down by Ad Standards

McDonald’s has pulled a television ad for its Birdie’s Brekkie Meal after Ad Standards ruled the colourful campaign targeted children, which is banned under its rules.

The campaign revived Birdie the Early Bird, a McDonaldland character first introduced in 1980.

McDonald’s argued in its defence that the character was intended to tap into nostalgia among adults who grew up with its advertising in the 1980s and 1990s.

However, the Ad Standards Community Panel found the combination of bright colours, cartoon characters and scenery, catchy music and a pink frappé resembling a milkshake meant the ad was likely to appeal to children, despite its supposed nostalgic allure.

The ruling followed complaints that the campaign was promoting junk food to children, with complainants pointing to its Happy Meal-like packaging, colourful cartoon imagery and catchy “Birdie’s Brekkie Meal” song.

Well ironically, McDonaldland was originally developed to market McDonalds to children. Guess Mayor McCheese isn’t making a return anytime soon.

A shame that the revival of “Birdie the Early Bird” was short lived.

Can’t have ads that are cartoons aimed at adults anymore. Boo to that.

Probably better to not have shonky ads for junk food.
