That’s an ambitious target. Maybe Wendy’s could succeed given it already has a solid base in New Zealand. Five Guys and Carl’s Jr have been struggling in Australia in the past couple of years.
I don’t see why Wendy’s would be a drawcard when there are so many burger joints around already.
i think it’s the hype of an american brand coming down here ultimately
Which is crazy because so many of these brands often do not live up to the hype and there are better quality fast food outlets here already..
So far it’s been 2 in 9 months. With a third opening in Melbourne soon.
I expect expansion to ramp up next year.
It’s can be successful. But it’s about localising the product to an Australian market.
Starbucks and Taco Bell have both struggled here.
There’s a long list of past failures such as Arby’s, Carl’s Jr, Hardee’s, Denny’s, Chili’s, Lone Star Steakhouse, Johnny Rockets, Sizzler and a previous launch of Wendy’s.
I dunno how much of a factor it is, but Wendy’s/First Kitchen Japan uses Aussie Beef in their burgers, I wonder if potentially there’s some combined processing opportunities to expand what is imported from here, and take advantage of scale even before enough stores are located here.
It’s certainly one problem for these US entrants - a supply chain for a small number of stores is a huge overhead, you kinda need 0 stores or 100 stores, not 15.

To be honest they really need to look at how Hungry Jacks / Burger King started in Australia , try a different location rather than follow most others and launch in QLD (sorry QLD) open a few more in the outer suburbs of other cities and then fail! Maybe instead focus on untapped markets like say Perth, Adelaide and start expanding a different way!
I think QLD is just too saturated with US companies trying to set their footprint there! I’m not like fully pro Perth as I do live between Perth and Bali now but I love Johnny Rockets (so does my girlfriend ) and I have no idea why it failed in Australia! We also have Wendy’s in Transtudio malls here in Bali but at the same time I heard it’s not great there so yet to try it (last time I had Wendy’s was in 2011 in Vegas).
With Starbucks it’s much better in Perth than Bali which the ones in Perth are on par with the US, yet all the people that complain and avoid have only tasted it in SE Asia! It’s not the same!
Unfortunately i wouldn’t be the same. Last time i went to a Sizzler was back in 2013. Went to the one at Kogarah before a footy game. It was okay but not what i remembered. No way could just a salad bar be a meal in itself like it use to.
KFC Launches New Zinger Banh Mi Nationwide on November 4
The new item brings Vietnamese-style flavours to the KFC menu, pairing the brand’s signature spicy Zinger fillet with fresh and tangy ingredients inspired by the classic bánh mì.
The Zinger Banh Mi includes a Zinger Fillet, cucumber and carrot Vietnamese-style slaw, Bánh Mì sauce, and Supercharged sauce, all served on a crunchy long roll. The combination offers a mix of heat, crunch and freshness designed to give the traditional Zinger profile a new twist.
The Zinger Banh Mi is now available Australia-wide for a limited time.
Had a trip to Sydney for a concert yesterday. On the drive there and back we had pitstops at the twin servos to get a cup of coffee and use the gents. Have to say both sides of the road look a lot cleaner since Hungry Jack’s took over.
But on the trip back noticed it was only the Hungry Jack’s that was open 24 hours. Oporto and Oliver’s were both closed. And Northbound doesn’t have the Noodle Bar.
Keeping with the restaurant theme we had dinner at the Cheers bar in George Street.
i think its the opposite - more set up in Melbourne or Sydney first (see 5 give guys for example) and come to Queensland “eventully’
the one i give massive props to is Chuk-E-cheese who opened there first aussie store in perth
This reminds me, I had a colleague who recently went to a family party. She said the food was terrible but the kids loved it (as expected) and the rat was nightmare fuel for the kids.
I’m not in the demographic of their target audience, but I had no clue they were even open, until she had said so. Further research tells me it’s been open since 4th September.
Wendy’s closures in America could affect Australia
Menulog to close in two weeks.
