Fast Food/Takeaways and Restaurants

The Glen shopping centre’s new Food Gallery opens next Wednesday (March 28) just in time for Easter. It is located on ground level on the north east corner of the complex, facing the intersection of High Street and Springvale Roads in Glen Waverley in Melbourne’s east. It will feature 14 eateries, including a new Huxtago by Huxtaburger store plus three (Schnitz, Healthy Habits and Muffin Break) which were operating in the old Food Court before it was demolished two months ago.

Any Maccas in there?

No Maccas in The Glen, there is already one on the other side of the intersection of Springvale and High Street Roads, next to Glen Waverley Primary School. That store is the second oldest McDonald’s in Australia and the building was rebuilt in 2015-2016. In fact there is no fast food outlet in The Glen after KFC’s lease was terminated due to the closure of the old food court.

Soul Origin is fast food, it’s just supposedly better than the big chains. I got a chicken toasted sandwich from a Soul Origin yesterday - the wholemeal bread was fine and so was the avocado, but the chicken was too fatty and the promised salad was one lettuce leaf. I’ve been disappointed with Soul Origin before having had soggy rolls that are pre-prepared some hours earlier … and that is its main problem. They claim it’s fresh, but it’s not. I won’t try it again.

Whoops. That should be burgers.

I’m surprised by the extremely rapid expansion of Rashays. I mean, the concept of a fast casual dining place which offers steak, pasta, pizza…is a great idea, and I really enjoy the food at their restaurants and it’s usually quite reasonably priced. The name is a bit odd though. It sounds Indian, and looking at a roadside store from a car you’d expect it to be some kind of Indian or Arabic joint, rather than just plain old western food. I had no idea that it was just a plain old fast casual place until my friends told me that it was.

I don’t know what you expect from a sandwich/salad bar in a food court but I got a Panini from the Soul Origin at Chadstone earlier in the week and thought it was good. I could see them making things too and putting straight out which you could instantly buy. Obviously it would depend on the time of the day - if you go later afternoon you are probably more like to have some stuff that has been sitting there for a while but not really a big deal.

Fancy a Big Mac for breakfast? McDonalds is set to introduce a “all day favourites” menu across Victoria and Tasmania, as well in Adelaide and Newcastle. The trail set to start from Tomorrow.

From tomorrow, McDonald’s restaurants across Victoria and Tasmania will roll out a new All Day Favourites menu.
Big Mac, Quarter Pounder, cheeseburger, chicken nuggets and fries will be among the choices available during the trial, both in store and via drive-through

HJ’s has full menu available so makes sense. Not sure I could stomach it myself. Maybe after a hard night out on the way home :joy::face_with_monocle:

Can’t go past the chicken nuggets at 3am. #nuglife

I used to do shift work at the melbourne casino and when knocking off at 5am the only option was a 24 hour pizza place, the staff cafe or maccas. it was a big annoyance of mine that i would work all night and all i could get from maccas was breakfast items.

i know most people were waking up, but i’m having my dinner

Fantastic, after all I think McDonald’s Breakfast menu is a little boring in terms of variety compared to say McDonalds in Singapore where you can order breakfast menu items like a double filet O fish, a breakfast deluxe (english muffins, chicken sausage, scrambled eggs & 2 pancakes) or a chicken & egg muffin or my old favourite the big breakfast, which McDonald’s Australia discontinued during the early to mid 2000s (I think).

In Hong Kong, the McDonald’s breakfast menu has not changed much in a decade. It includes Filet-O-Fish, deluxe breakfast (sausage, scrambled eggs, english muffins and hash brown), hotcakes breakfast (hotcakes, hash brown and sausage), bacon and egg McMuffin, sausage and egg McMuffin, and soup macaronis (choose from sausage and egg, ham and egg, or grilled chicken).

I was gonna say that I could swear that I’ve had many standard menu Maccas items after big nights out (pretty much the only time I ever eat it) but I’ve probably got in just before 4am. Although ideally KFC is my food of choice after a big one.

Unfortunately a job of mine took too long today and I didn’t get lunch so after 12 hours between breakfast and lunch today but I have just smashed the best KFC I think I’ve ever had. Found a “secret menu” on the KFC app with a stacker box combo for $13 something. Food coma right here! Anybody know how long the secret menu thing has been in the app? I’ve never seen it before.

I bought one of their $20 dealies via the app which included a surprisingly large amount of stuff. It was something like 10 pieces of chicken, some tenders, 2 large chips, large potato and gravy, blah blah blah…almost passed out from that one.

In other news, does anyone know how Red Rooster still exists? Every store I’ve been to recently is basically a ghost town, even though there are clearly at least four people in the back still getting paid.

I’ve heard stories that it’s a drug front (a-la Los Pollos Hermanos) which I don’t really buy…

I ate at one on Tuesday. Inside is never busy at the couple I frequent though the drive thrus always seem to have a sporadic but steady stream of customers.

I wonder what I’d get if I asked for a Coke?
