That makes it even more confusing then. Why are they struggling to adjust to the 40kmh zones and getting fined?

They have had 25km/h school zones
Plus that speed limit applies at any time a child is in the zone - even outside school times. Just another quirk in South Australia.
Children and pedestrians get right of way in many instances but drivers in their fancy tin boxes with plastic extras are more important.
Work is underway to expand the westbound lanes of M5 in Moorebank in south west Sydney.

Now, when are they going to take the tolls off the stretch of the M5 between the Airport and Beverly Hills as pledged at the last election?
That part of the M5 wasn’t tolled before they started building the M8 but has now sent trucks and semi-trailers onto local roads. Plus the M8 was built with strange entry/exit points that have done little to ease the M5 in peak hours.

I don’t believe it is anymore - that part of the M5 becomes part of the WestConnex concession when the existing arrangements expire in December
Yeah I thought the M5 East toll was put on permanently when the M8 opened. I don’t recall any pledge since to remove it. Anyway, even though they do have different exit points, they still head to either side of the airport and if one was tolled and one wasn’t it would be chaos. Trucks rat running local roads should be a separately managed issue. Congestion on the M5 East would be way worse though with no toll. The M8 ideally would be taking a bit more of the traffic though with a slightly higher speed limit and I would think same time or possibly even quicker access to the airport since the Gateway opened - although from KGR it’s signposted as M8 for Domestic and M5 for International which are pretty much the most sensible options.
Re tolls in general though I wish they’d bring back the percentage rebate option. I do use them but not usually breaching the $60 cap. They also need to bring in a bit more consistency in the pricing.
Fair enough. I didn’t realise there was a change in what Chris Minns was originally saying ant the actual election pledges later.
I found this online:
Chris Minns and the NSW Labor government did not pledge to entirely remove the M5 East toll, but instead promised to provide financial relief for motorists using it.
Their key 2023 election pledges included::
Implementing a $60 weekly toll cap (beginning in 2024 for two years) to assist heavy users of motorways, including the M5 East and M8.
I live in the area and a lot of locals still think he did pledge to remove it so they will think it’s a broken promise.
The $60 cap helps some heavy users, but many still bypass the M5 East/M8 and stull use the local roads.
The “D5” (detour 5) through Forest Road, Stoney Creek Road then King Georges Road can be a nightmare at times. Especially through Bexley in the afternoons (and assumably in the mornings too).
It’s a nightmare all day. I visit a cafe on Forest Road and the traffic is constantly hectic.

I have questions
You can’t park there sir !
How on earth did they manage to do that?
I’m thinking the motorbike hit the car at such a high speed that it gained enough of a boost for it and the rider to be stuck up on the post.
Hit something hard enough with enough force, you’ll go flying.
Maybe he had just washed his bike and wanted to hang it out to dry?
Could have been flying along on one wheel and jumped off the the car ![]()

Construction on the Western Highway Upgrade between Buangor and Ararat is set to begin before the end of the year, following the Albanese Labor Government’s additional $372.5 million investment and an additional $73.5 million investment from the Allan Labor Government.
The extra funding, included in the 2026/27 State and Federal Budgets, takes the total joint contribution to $1.17 billion, ensuring this critical upgrade will be delivered.
Long overdue, one of the worst and most neglectfully maintained arterials over decades in Victoria. The amount of horror accidents and fatalities or critical injuries last year alone is shocking, at one point over the space of mere days or weeks, particularly at Buangor.
The Route 8 corridor, once a National Highway, has had several changes throughout its history, most notably the conversion to controlled access/graded dual-carriageway freeway between Miners Rest, Ballarat and Caroline Springs, Melbourne in stages from the 1960s to 1990s, the Deer Park Bypass in the city completing this in 2009 and various duplications regionally (though many intersections at-grade and not to proper freeway standard) west of Ballarat to Buangor from about 2011 to COVID.
I think it’ll be many more decades though sadly until it’s fully divided all the way to the South Australian border (e.g.) through or bypassing Horsham, Nhill, etc.
