Driving & Traffic

Petrol prices this morning are shocking. Hope you all filled up!

Stations around me in Metro Melbourne have been 210+ for nearly a week already

Ampol at Marsden Park was around the $2.11 mark for E10. Even with my small i30 only needing to fill roughly half, and grocery and NRMA discounts, it was a bit of a hit to the hip pocket.

More info regarding ATN and parent company GTN (Global Traffic Network)

They have pulled out of the UK (UKTN) entirely, and wound down aviation operations in Australia and Canada

A very short briefing to shareholders was held to revue the results. At seven minutes, including a solitary question, it was almost a traffic report itself

ATN seems to be the largest/most dominant market… Noticed they have recently expanded their agreement with 10 to cover all markets now.

Most stations around here were at 214.9 and started to drop down to 208.9, now most of them have jumped up to 220.9, luckily we have a couple of independents that stay close to the terminal gate pricing. I paid 164.9 early this morning before the queuing started.

We must be a bit desensitized to higher prices in Brisbane, the most expensive capital to buy fuel. Because I don’t even blink at anything below 230 :joy:

Not that it would happen but the fuel retailers are increasing their prices higher than they need to taking advantage of the situation completely and the ACCC should take action and fine them significantly so they don’t do it again.

I’m happy I have my Tesla where it costs me $3 to charge my car allowing me to drive 400km. For me it’s a month’s worth if driving.

I also don’t think they have kept up with the market even though I know why ATN don’t do this but I would love them to upload the traffic reports to a podcast and have it updated every 15 minutes or even more frequently . Therefore I could listen to the traffic from Spotify as soon as I get to my car on my way to work then I can listen to music or a different podcast and not have to put commercial radio or the ABC on at all. I would probably pay for it too if it wasn’t outrageously expensive maybe $5 a month without ads I would not pay more.

2GB make their traffic reports available on the app but it isnt accessible on my Tesla as you would need Carplay or Android auto which isn’t available. I could use the app but I despise these radio station apps they are a waste of data on my phone and are unnecessary when you should be able to use shared apps like Tunein, radio app etc or a direct link to the stream without the stations app.

If petrol prices go over $2.50 a litre or more my car will be sitting here in the car park at home most days and I’ll be using public transport to get around .Thank goodness we have 50c PT fares here in QLD because we have the most expensive petrol prices.

I’ve been looking at Public Transport options too. It means longer travel times and recent trackwork has slowed down V/Line trains making connections unreliable and a lottery.

Some significant road closures atm:

Stuart Hwy closed at Katherine. Freight trains are running and will enable supermarket replenishment in Darwin.

Great Western Hwy at Victoria Pass to be closed for a long time due to cracks in the convict built structure:

Hopefully more rail freight can help alleviate the problem.

Wouldnt put it past David Crisafulli to make out that due to the increase in oil prices we can no longer afford 50 cent fares.

It’s a good thing that Queensland has 50c fares I wish NSW did. It costs me $9 a day. I go into the office one day a week and pay $11 more to drive which is a lot less stressful strangely enough as I leave early before the traffic gets really bad.

Yes He probably will as it was our previous Labour government who brought them in.

To drive to the clubhouse I’m a member of ,even though its only 4.5 kms from home ,if I leave there after 4.30 pm ,a drive that should only be about 10 minutes can be 25 minutes if I’m caught in traffic.Thats a lot of fuel wasted in stop/start traffic.Alternatively I can catch a train and get off after 2 stations ,then I only have a 10 minute walk from there or to the train station from home. When I start my part time job after next week, its only 3 days a week,as its about 15 kms from home I’ll travel there on public transport.I need to walk more anyway,as long as its not too hot or raining I don’t mind.

Why have they chosen all the pests?

Because Queensland is the Pest State. Full of pests, breeding more and more pests, of all varieties.
