AUSTRALIA’S FAVOURITE DOCTOR IS BACK!

Returns Wednesday 16 August at 8.40pm after The Block.

The exceptional cast is back for season two: Rodger Corser (Hugh), Nicole da Silva (Charlie), Steve Bisley (Jim), Ryan Johnson (Matt), Tina Bursill (Meryl), Hayley McElhinney (Penny), Matt Castley (Ajax), Chloe Bayliss (Hayley), Charles Wu (Ken) and Belinda Bromilow (Betty).

Angus McLaren (Packed to the Rafters), who plays the charismatic ex-army medic Dr Toke, and Brittany Clark playing Mia, Whyhope’s straight-talking new nurse, are two additions to the DOCTOR DOCTOR cast.

Life is about to get a whole lot more complicated for bad boy Doctor Hugh. Penny (Hayley McElhinney) has been gone for a month now, after trading Whyhope for a job in the city. And she’s making the most of the lifestyle change, including dating an ex-army medic she met at her new hospital, Dr Toke (Angus McLaren), which leaves Hugh less than impressed. Will Hugh play his cards right and win her back before it’s too late?

Meanwhile, Whyhope hospital is in chaos with Hugh’s dangerously incompetent new boss Nora Gumbleton (Helen Thomson) at the helm.

Matt (Ryan Johnson) has disappeared to clear his head and Charlie (Nicole da Silva) is desperately trying to get him to return home, their marriage is in trouble, and it’s all thanks to Hugh. Theirs isn’t the only relationship being tested. When Hugh’s teenage son Ajax (Matt Castley) and his devoutly religious long-term girlfriend Hayley (Chloe Bayliss) accidentally have sex, Ajax wants to marry her!

After winning the election as Mayor, Hugh’s mother Meryl (Tina Bursill) faces a corruption investigation and could lose everything, while his dad Jim (Steve Bisley) is rushed to hospital after he collapses. His life is in danger, and only Hugh can save him.

And all the while, Hugh fights with temptation at every turn. The countdown is on, can he make it to the end of his probation without screwing up again, and ruining his career forever?

Not the first time that Nine have decided to run one Australian drama in direct competition with another. A shame as it is only going to hurt both programs.

Nine could have waited for a few more weeks before showing it on Tuesdays, after True Story finishes its first season.

Tuesdays would have been a great day to air it. I can’t see Doctor Doctor doing very well against Offspring.

Filming for season three starts in NSW this month. Nicole da Silva, who plays Charlie in the drama and is due with her first child in July, will be one busy woman as she will also be filming season 7 of Wentworth from next week.

Doctor Doctor Series 3 Commences Production

Australia’s favourite bad boy doctor is back for a third series of Nine’s hit drama series, Doctor Doctor, which has commenced production in Sydney and will return to the Nine Network later this year.

The clock has run out on Doctor Hugh Knight’s (Rodger Corser) probation, leaving him free to return to the big smoke. But when tragedy strikes the Knight family, he’s going to find it harder than ever to leave the family farm.

An outstanding cast returns for the new series, including Rodger Corser (Hugh), Nicole da Silva (Charlie), Steve Bisley (Jim), Ryan Johnson (Matt), Tina Bursill (Meryl), Hayley McElhinney (Penny), Matt Castley (Ajax), Chloe Bayliss (Hayley), Charles Wu (Ken), Belinda Bromilow (Betty) and Brittany Clark (Mia).

Joining the cast are Vince Colosimo (Underbelly, Schapelle), who will play a long-lost relative and TV Week Logie Award winning Miranda Tapsell (Love Child, The Sapphires) who plays an old school friend of the Knight brothers.

Doctor Doctor is filmed in Sydney and country NSW and is produced by Easy Tiger Productions for Nine with the assistance of Create NSW.

Even the cast can’t believe how stupid Nine have been with that spoiler promo. Why not build up expectation about who may die rather than giving away so much?

If your a regular viewer it is not a surprise anyway, amazed the character survived all of last season in which his illnesses were major part of the storylines.

Maybe they are trying to attract a new audience and hook them with an inciting incident to reintroduce the Doctor to the bush. Hopefully they give it a massive marketing push. It might need it if existing regular viewers are alienated because of the spoiler.

Nine announced at this afternoon’s upfronts that the show had been renewed for a fourth season next year.
