Digital Radio

I’d say the same about Classic Rock Digital, too. The default playlist is definitely safer than the original CRD; I copped “Hotel California” and “Jumping Jack Flash” back to back today. ‘Essential Vinyl’- a full album each midday- is great, though. I’m sure the playlist during Alice Cooper’s show is good as well.

In comparison to the regional MMM Greatest Hits log, I would say that the Digital station’s music is skewed older, and has none of the modern music, either hit eg. Katy Perry or rock eg. Kings Of Leon.

Yeah, Katy Perry is definitely played on the regional Ms (I heard her on MMM Orange the other day). The same probably goes for other virulent artists such as Ed Sheeran and Adele, too. From the little I’ve sampled, MMM GH Digital doesn’t exactly stand out from the multitude of ‘Jack FM’ type outlets music wise; the obvious upside is little to no advertising as with CR Digital.

Maybe its just me but i am desperate for a station in Melbourne that just does variety. I’m mid 40’s and love 70’s to new stuff. Was really hopeful that MMM greatest hits might be light the regionals and play a bit of everything but no new. I end up listening to one station for an hour and then search for something else.

I have Sync 3 in my Focus late 2016, and I can definitely have presets from both ensembles (which is what I assume 9A and 9B are?). The only annoying thing is when I switch ensembles, say from a commercial station to an ABC or SBS station, there’s a pause of a few seconds while the radio presumably tunes in the other ensemble.

Same; I’m in my late 30’s and I really enjoyed MORE Digital when it was around. It was still fairly ‘poppy’ but had a good mix of stuff from the 80’s and 90’s. Oldskool Hits skews too much towards R&B for my liking.

I agree too, I would like to see some more variety on Greatest Hits digital, including some newer and lighter pop music like you hear on the regional Triple M stations (such as 93.5 up in Bendigo), which may be hard to get clearly in some parts of Melbourne, so I can see where you are coming from with this.

But I think we are in the minority here, metro stations tend to have more specialised and narrower playlists since there are more stations on offer, so I can see why Triple M are not doing this on Digital Radio.

Would love a station like Hot Tomatoe in Melbourne. They do it well

What do 3BA-FM (Ballarat) sound like these days? They were similar to the other ‘heritage’ Grant stations like 2ST, 2EC et. al a while back. They may have what you’re looking for; the signal is fairly good throughout most of Melbourne on a decent car radio, obviously better the further west you go. I didn’t tune in during my trip down in June- no need, as I was besotted with stations like PBS.

You can check on RadioApp, as they have the playlist for 3BA on there.

Here’s a sample from this morning up to around 9am:

And if you had a car that has DAB+, you would also be besotted with Aussie & KOOOL.

Yeah same with mine. The second or two delay is a bit annoying, but I’m used to it now.

I wouldn’t write off Greatest Hits in this regard yet. I heard She’s So High/Tal Bachmann this morning. That song was released in 99. I’ve noticed they’re getting a bit broader and after all they’ve only been on air a week. Think they’ll move a little further away from Classic Rock over time.

yep I heard it too - but on my car radio the start of the song was sooooooo quiet until the chorus… was it the same for you?

Did you happen to turn the volume up for the chorus?

Ah I only caught the last half of the song when I flicked over from Easy Hits, so not sure if the start was quiet sorry.

Had Classic Hits on for the past 2 or 3 days now. Apart from a few late 90s songs (which aren’t that common) it sounds a lot like old Gold 104.3 before they updated their playlist to include late 90s and early 2000s songs. I’m really liking it. Great playlist so far. Heard 3 or so car ads (no, not THAT car ad) yesterday which I thought was odd. None today as of yet

On this week’s Common Sense one of the workplaces have upgraded to DAB+ !!

Very handy to have whilst counting potatoes.
That sounds quite boring

Shopping at Harvey Norman this morning; there were 12 radios easily identifiable as DAB+. There may have been more and they looked like new or recent stock.
