Finally some engineering with some brains.
Very sad. Gold Coast was once the origin of the regional network for SCA and Hot Tomato operated independently in a time when both hosted all components locally.
Now sadly, this scourge of cloud hosting has seen the end of this.
TXA have the right idea, no windows and nothing connected to the internet.
You’d hope Nine and ABC with talk stations could keep going in such conditions with non talk production pieces surely small enough to be hosted locally?
And why the major networks didn’t have diversity of cloud providers is baffling, oh that’s right, saving too much money?
It makes sense that the DAB broadcasts don’t come from the local studio as SCA’s LiSTNR stations 80s New Wave currently has the Aussie Pub Rock broadcast and INDIE & ALT currently has the Trending Now broadcast, which must have been a result of the technical problems experienced since the CrowdStrike issue on Friday afternoon.
Hi Anthony.
I’ve just now checked with my SDR & QIRX software the Syd Community 8D mux.
As of a few moments ago ~0730UTC the UTC time is showing correctly, sorry I didn’t check the time earlier. Time via the SDR/software just a couple of seconds slow.
Not receivable at Stanhope Gardens on my DAB+/ FM tuner connected to horizontal tv antenna, but managed to get it on Sangean portable DAB+ radio in the back yard. In one spot I can get it just above the digital cliff. If I move slightly the signal is gone, it is that weak here.
Interestingly my clock radio is 10hrs behind again this evening. Must be something weird going on in the receiver due to low signal.
Has the DAB+ 8D Sydney Community - Kings Cross service been switched off this evening?
I was decoding it earlier this evening.
My DAB+ clock radio does this in Brisbane all the time - it swaps between local time and UTC even when I haven’t been using it. I presume one of the stations here must transmit clock time in UTC rather than the offset?
Interesting. I believe the timing is per-mux, not per-station. My radio always uses the mux of the last station you tuned to when fetching the time, which should help narrow down the mux I guess.
It looks that way, took my DAB+ portable to my parents place at Oatley and got no service. 2PPH 100.5 is received quite well there.
8D was back on yesterday with three services - all playing the same song on a loop.
Thanks for that. Noting your observations today at 1pm.
The SNR is another 2-3dB higher than the other day & no dropouts
@RFBurns just curious if the repeaters are back up and running again?
What the Winmalee & Mt Badgally ones? Yes been back on since about 2:15pm last Sunday afternoon.
Yeah went out there again the car had less drop outs this time.
ABC Gold Coat multiplex having some issues tonight - off air for some periods.
Anyone got an old dab radio?

PS other stations like FUN are DAB+ AAC.
Edit: Looks like a bug… On my trusty Sangean.
I just went outdoors with my Panasonic DAB radio with the in built telescopic antenna, and tried for the test 8D Sydney East services.
I can only get 3-4 bars out of 15 signal strength, the stations will scan in, but signal not strong enough to decode… I did hear a couple of seconds of audio at one point, but that was it.
But I suppose it’s something to get them at all, since I’m 110 kms away from the Elan Building in Kings Cross and it’s only running 500 watts. Would definitely be listenable with some tropo or even mild enhancement, conditions seemed rather normal otherwise on FM.
I could get it better with my 4 element Yagi hooked up to my DAB mini hifi.
The song playing on loop in the SydExtra DAB 3 of Channels is “Dont leave me this way(feat.Teddy Pendergrass)by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes”.
It cant be on the repeaters as coverage is sketchy around Campbelltown in the car.
A bit late to the party on this one. I had previously received the Sydney Extra test DAB+ from the Elan when it was broadcasting the test tones only.
Today when doing a DAB+ scan on my DX setup the Sydney Extra test’s could be scanned and decoded. This is being received using a 10 element band 3 VHF antenna with horizontal polarity. There is some low level Tropo this morning with the rain, so I don’t know if this reception is Tropo related or they have made changes to the error corrections to boost coverage on this part of the test?
Coverage is also much stronger on my portable too.
