I just wish they would all stream, then they could be in stereo and dont they have an agreement with ARN for program supply. Surely they could do an agreement to be on iHeart.
What is the current status of DAB in Lonny- I thought it never got off the ground there?
There was a trial on when I was there in April 2024, but it was just a few stations playing looped messages with names like Test 01 Test 02., no actual stations. I don’t think it ever got any further than that.
That was my understanding as well, but the post regarding ABC RA on DAB seems to indicate otherwise?
Perhaps Ricky Ponting has donated to the cause ![]()
Didn’t Launceston get 6 ABC services and 5 SBS services? The services that are not on FM, such as ABC Jazz, Country, Unearthed etc
According to the listings on DABLIST, there’s an ABC only multiplex (no SBS) on 8B and a trial multiplex on 9D
I would expect this to be outdated, but it all went silent - the community stations did a push to get on DAB - mostly around the election, the licenses got allocated so they could, but I dunno if it happened or not in the end.
I suspect the incumbent commercial operator having zero interest in participating, probably tells you the all you need to know about the DAB rollout for Northern Tas.
It should have been a trial utilising the two eventual sites where it was licenced, West Launceston and Mt Barrow.
Also take into account, all ABC radio services are on high power FM in Launceston, so what’s the advantage of DAB vs FM in that case?
The DAB trial didn’t even cover the majority of Launceston, so it was always going to fail.
@Radiohead, Launceston is looking good for a weekend trip I hear
.
Maybe you could find out for us what is on DAB and what isn’t.
I’ve tried many times to get Launceston DAB in Melbourne, but even when the FMs are booming in (including the low power CBD ones), theres no sign of it. If it is on air, its likely running at very low power.
According to the ACMA’s TV Radio book, there is a DAB+ transmitter on 8D with a power of 700 watts located at the ABC studios. It is category 3 which means ABC & SBS, though others have said that it is ABC only.
