Did They Really Just Play That?

Classic 9 At 9 on Triple M tonight… Top 9 Cricket Songs!

Some missed hits here (in reverse order ie. Howzat was #1).

Why no

Marvellous - 12th Man
C’mon Aussie - Mojo Singers

A few more left field (outfield?) choices could have been

I Made A Hundred In The Backyard At Mum’s - Greg Champion
Shane Warne - Paul Kelly
Bradman - Paul Kelly
The Parable Of Glenn McGrath’s Haircut - TISM

At 6:18 AM this morning 2Day FM 104.1 Played “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey smack bang in the middle of November. I’d personally wait until December 1st for the Southern Cross Austereo stations to play Christmas music I would say.

Just warming up for Mariahageddon, the alternate game to Whammageddon…

You mean “Mariahpocalypse?”

Even ‘Gravy Day’ is now passe for mine.

On Triple M’s “Nights with Dave Gleeson’s “Classic 9 at 9 segment which focused on ARIA Hall of Fame inductees, I heard “Scar” by Missy Higgins to commemorate the occasion of Higgins being inducted into the aforementioned HOF. This is perhaps one of the rare occasions that some of Higgins’ discography has been played on Triple M stations. Although two decades ago you could’ve heard her music on mainstream radio back then.

Hard to believe that song is 20 years old.

I’m older than I thought I was!

Triple M metro and regionals should play more Missy, and “Steer” as well as “Scar”.

On Triple M Newcastle this morning

10:45am: “Please Please Please” by Sabrina Carpenter, then “Espresso” about five minutes later

Unusual hearing her on a predominantly rock station.

I think the idea that Triple M regionals are rock is illusional, more “greatest hits”.

I’m not against Triple M regionals playing a bit of modern pop like Ed Sheeran, Tay Tay or Sabrina. Just their better songs or maybe a new release. But definitely no rap or hip hop like Kendrick Lamar or other stuff Hit plays.

And just late last week during the Tanya and Steve show on the same station, I heard “All I Want for Christmas is You” - Mariah Carey just two days after I heard the song on 2DAY FM! Like I said, Mariahpocalypse doesn’t start till December 1st and I know the Triple M Regionals play some variety of pop music but this is ridiculous!

Unusual in that (s)HIT basically play her 3 songs on an hourly rotation, usually 3 songs after a Taylor Swift breakup monologue…

Toto - Africa

Just heard on Power FM Far South Coast (103.9 Eden)

Firmly belongs on 2EC/2ST log only.

I’m not against Power FM playing some 80s, but should be more pop or new wave, like Cyndi Lauper, Wham, Whitney Houston or INXS.

I think Africa is possibly the most overplayed song in the history of pop music.

It’s a youth skewing station, and majority of the youth that listen grew up on it in school. It’s a bit of a icon if you ask me!

At 6:20 AM on the Tanya and Steve show on Triple M Newcastle, they played “Crazy in Love” by Beyonce featuring Jay Z as a reference to the former artist becoming the greatest pop act of the 21st century. I’ve said this many times but the aforementioned artist belongs more to the HIT Network rather than TRIPLE M (unlike the regional M’S that is)!

Seems to be Newcastle doing dumb, off brand shit like this.

But they’re #1, so :man_shrugging:

Only due to a lack of effective competition.

Now if we had a Star or Hot Tomato here…
