At 6:18 AM this morning 2Day FM 104.1 Played “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey smack bang in the middle of November. I’d personally wait until December 1st for the Southern Cross Austereo stations to play Christmas music I would say.
On Triple M’s “Nights with Dave Gleeson’s “Classic 9 at 9 segment which focused on ARIA Hall of Fame inductees, I heard “Scar” by Missy Higgins to commemorate the occasion of Higgins being inducted into the aforementioned HOF. This is perhaps one of the rare occasions that some of Higgins’ discography has been played on Triple M stations. Although two decades ago you could’ve heard her music on mainstream radio back then.
I think the idea that Triple M regionals are rock is illusional, more “greatest hits”.
I’m not against Triple M regionals playing a bit of modern pop like Ed Sheeran, Tay Tay or Sabrina. Just their better songs or maybe a new release. But definitely no rap or hip hop like Kendrick Lamar or other stuff Hit plays.
And just late last week during the Tanya and Steve show on the same station, I heard “All I Want for Christmas is You” - Mariah Carey just two days after I heard the song on 2DAY FM! Like I said, Mariahpocalypse doesn’t start till December 1st and I know the Triple M Regionals play some variety of pop music but this is ridiculous!
At 6:20 AM on the Tanya and Steve show on Triple M Newcastle, they played “Crazy in Love” by Beyonce featuring Jay Z as a reference to the former artist becoming the greatest pop act of the 21st century. I’ve said this many times but the aforementioned artist belongs more to the HIT Network rather than TRIPLE M (unlike the regional M’S that is)!
