Did They Really Just Play That?

I guess that they finally modernised their playlist in that they finally reached the 1970s after playing the hits of the 1870s.

ABC Classic. The only station where a harpsichord solo counts as ā€œbanger of the weekā€.

Heard at the same time on the way into Sydney this afternoon

Who Can It Be Now - Men At Work

On both Gold 101.7 and 2ST. I was worried for a minute 2ST had been goldified but thankfully, the next songs on each were different (That’s Freedom - John Farnham on Gold and With Arms Wide Open - Creed on 2ST).

I was going to make a joke about it being the first time someone was happy to hear Creed, but honestly I’d probably take that song over That’s Freedom, one of the weaker Farnham tracks.

Agree, both artists have much better songs that commercial radio (typically) rarely play.

Farnsey has a few that don’t see the light of day on mainstream radio. I played ā€˜Break The Ice’ the other week.

Magic 1278 played John Mellencamp’s ā€œJack and Dianeā€ from 1982, don’t they only play the 70s usually?

Wasnt that from the BMX movie ā€œRADā€

No, if it’s the same music log as sister stations 4BH and 2UE they play lots of 80s, 90s and even the odd 00s song these days.

Correctomundo.

Always thought that was John Farnham… well you learn something new everyday

Yes it is John Farnham, but for some reason it featured on that movie.

I want this song to be binned permanently :-1:

Absolutely. Nobody needs to hear the little ditty about two American kids doing the best they can, as we all know how that story goes.

This morning when I was at work, listening to Triple M Newcastle 102.9 FM during Awesome 80s Friday, I heard ā€œKing of Wishful Thinkingā€ by Go West. Apparently the song was released in 1990. One year off from the 80s decade. Could’ve played ā€œWe Close Our Eyesā€ but this is kind of a typical cock up on their Awesome 80s Friday playlist as always.

Technically, 1990 is part of the 80s decade since there was no year 0 (so the last year of the first decade in the Common Era was 10 CE).

Duly noted, but we all know music wise that the nineties didn’t officially begin until the release of Nirvana’s ā€œNevermindā€ which the Grunge genre would dominate the music charts and industry towards the end of the early nineties.

And the eighties didn’t start until 1982.

bit shocked to hear We Believe by the newsboys on Inspire.

Given the Alligations about him (which he has confirmed) it should have been yanked very quickly from airplay but 2 weeks on and it’s still on air?

Heard Shannon Noll’s cover of ā€œWhat About Me?ā€ On Triple M’s regionals version of the ā€œbiggest moments in musicā€ countdown. Such an instant station changer when it came out and still is today. shudders
