7News Melbourne’s Xander McGuire reported this afternoon that Josh Hazlewood would miss the opening Ashes test next week. It was later confirmed by Cricket Australia which said the fast bowler, who had played in the Sheffield Shield game against Victoria at the SCG earlier this week, had a hamstring strain. Michael Neser would come in as a cover.

Interesting Final day shaping up in the 1st IND v SAF Test in Kolkata.

IND currently 2-10 needing a total of 124 to win.

Been a low scoring Test with completed innings totals of 159, 189 and 153.

Going down to the wire too now with India 8/93 and still needing 31 to win.

And that didn’t last long - all out the next ball, 9/93 and a loss by 30 runs.

It changed very quickly! Axar was smashing the ball everywhere, then he got out it was all over 2 balls later.

Looks like Shubman Gill was unable to bat again after retiring hurt yesterday with a neck problem.

Jake Weatherald and Brendan Doggett have been confirmed to make their debut in the first Ashes test, starting in Perth tomorrow.

It means that for the first time, two Indigenous cricketers will be playing for Australia in a test match (Doggett and Scott Boland).

However, Beau Webster has been dropped from the Australian line-up.

UPDATE: Australian XI has been named

Seems like just about every WBBL game so far this year has been rain affected.

Tonight was no different at North Sydney Oval.

The Melbourne Stars made 4-219 in their 20 overs, with Meg Lanning scoring 135.

The Sydney Sixers were reduced to 4/21 in 4 overs before rain intervened. Kim Garth had the incredible figures of 4 wickets for 3 runs off 2 overs. There was a bit of an anxious wait as 5 overs were required to constitute a game.

Play did return with the game reduced to 10 overs, with the Sixers needing 154 to win (so another 133 off 6 overs!).

Sixers got nowhere near it, bowled out for just 42, the 2nd lowest score in WBBL history.

What’s everyone’s setup today? I’ve synced the Seven audio up with the Fox pictures. Might switch across to the ABC call at some point but the Lane-Ponting-Broad team is much better than the Gilchrist-Vaughan-Warner Fox grouping.

With the most recent wicket, Starc is the 13th Australian bowler with 100 Ashes wickets.

Report: 43,591 ATTENDANCE ON DAY OF THE FIRST ASHES TEST.

Highest ever attended day of test cricket in Perth.

And that’s just at the start of play. It should get more than 50k

My setup is to monitor this thread for any news :stuck_out_tongue: , as i have assignments to work on (Third trimester at Deakin). Hopefully 7 will upload some of the match later on so i can watch a condensed version later.

7plus will have minis, highlights and full match. You can select one of them.

I thought the 1st day was supposed to be a sellout (or close to it).

Public ticket sellout. Members always a let down. Why have a membership and not turn up?

Also, 60,000 wasn’t ever possible, given the various thousands of seats removed for the sight screens and the hill setup.

England are 4/105 at lunch with Starc taking three wickets. However, Australia had only bowled 23 overs in the section, which could see the team losing some part of match fee at the end of this test for slow over rate, unless Nathan Lyon bowls a lot of overs today.

Only if it goes over 80 overs right? Or is that only for the WTC point deduction

WTC points deduction is another possibility.

80 overs is the minimum for WTC penalities I believe, probably the same for match fees.

Nothing new re the slow over rate. As with the warming climate, I’ve just learned to accept it…the match is unlikely to go to the fifth day anyway.

The over rates are better in Sheffield Shield, where 96 overs should be bowled. Perhaps that’s an argument in favour of four day tests: time would be more of the essence then and may provide an automatic fix to torpid over rates.

Dennis Lillee used to say that 4 wickets minimum are required in the opening session at Perth. Aussies on par on that score
