Why?
Was bound to happen. Boland maybe not the best replacement at Optus but there really isn’t much choice.
Huge turnaround for South Africa after they were bundled out for 97 by Australia in the previous match.
Isn’t that story just awful. Poor kid just training and enjoying the game and this happens. Your heart goes out to everyone who knew him.
Indeed it is. Brings back flashbacks of Phillip Hughes
Seriously, this was a freak accident.
Such an unthinkable tragedy
This news has been on my mind all day. Especially given his age and not even playing in a game.
Apparently the ball hit him on the full and he wasn’t wearing the newer safer neck protective helmets.
Immediately brought back chills of Phillip Hughes in 2014.
This is the third cricket or cricket net related tragedy and that’s touched me, the other being (non-directly sports play related) the death of cricket lover 11 year old Luke Batty earlier in that aforementioned year, where at cricket practice in Tyabb, Victoria he was cornered in the nets by his ill father and stabbed/bashed to death, the father then shot dead by Police. Which was one of Melbourne’s biggest news stories that year. His mother Rosie Batty went on to become that year’s Australian of the Year and would be the first prominent domestic violence advocate in succeeding years. I recall several 3AW radio talents at the end of 2014, when discussing the year’s biggest events, that was near the top. Long-time senior Seven journalist Kristy Mayer, who was one of the first on-scene at Rosie’s press conference, said it was one of the hardest thing’s she’d ever had to cover/witness.

Australia won the second T20 match against India by four wickets at the MCG tonight, taking a 1-0 lead in the series (game one in Canberra was washed out).
A fiery four-over spell by player of the match Josh Hazlewood (3/13) ripped through India’s top order. Abhishek Sharma (68) and Harshit Rana (35) put up a fight, but their team was bowled out for 125 in 18.4 overs.

India’s Deepti Sharma was named player of the tournament.
The match started more than one hour late due to rain.
What a ridiculous proposal. The BBL is currently during the school holiday period so makes sense.
