COVID-19: Discussion of Impact 😷

andrews hasnt rulled out a full metro lockdown. it wont be the the whole of the state because rual and regional vic dont have any current cases . or any cases adding up to 20

Especially when so much business is usually done between Sydney and Melbourne, which for all the pettiness about state rivalries is something I think the premiers of both states would admit.

Come on now. In March and April things were not this bad AND the rest of the country was experiencing it at the same time. Of course he’s going to be feeling it now.

If you look at where the cases sit though, there are only 6 or so council areas with significantly higher than normal number of active cases (mostly locked down concentrated areas). The rest don’t have higher significant levels to what has been normal the whole way through. In fact my council area actually dropped from 7 to 6 cases today.

It takes about a week to see the effect of lockdowns so I’ll be surprised if they went to the lengths to lock of a handful of suburbs if they were going to change their minds on that unless there was significant widespread growth transmission across the state. The original full scale lockdowns were based on a worst case scenario model… But I guess we’ll and see what happens.

Some other countries are also starting to experience new outbreaks after restrictions have been lifted forcing their re-introduction.Israel has just reimposed restrictions after one day last week recording 966 new cases. Israel lifted most restrictions after the daily number of virus cases dropped below 20.

Victoria had 0 new cases 4 weeks ago. It’s amazing how quick it can escalate.

I’ve heard a lot of experts say ā€œwhen it feels like the right time to go into lockdown, it’s already 2 weeks too lateā€

I had a meeting today and everyone seemed to think that it was inevitable that all of melb will be in lockdown again within a week. I’ll be surprised if we have another weekend of freedom.

We had a contractor at work on site whilst infectious. Whilst only a brief visit with no contact with staff, we underwent a deep clean. That consisted of a disinfectant fog pumped through the building, not what many of us were thinking a deep clean would entail.

Coles and Woolworths have dropped their shipping limits. I thought they were a bit extreme given neither my local Woolworths, Coles or IGA in Melb didn’t seem to have any panic buying this time.

Did ALDI reintroduce shopping limits this time around?

With the border closures, I’m assuming it’s still possible for cargo and goods to be transported between the states?

If so, I wonder what measures they are doing to check truck and delivery drivers?

When restrictions were originally eased the general public simply forgot or chose not to adhere to the social distancing rules anymore. When I am out I see the public not covering their faces when they cough, sneeze etc, while the shopping centres are packed with no social distancing. This how community transmission continues to grow.

Even with family/friends gatherings, yes I know you should trust your family/friends on where they have been but to continue kissing, hugging etc them can spread the virus and as we’ve seen in the past few weeks it has. Yes - going from the 5 to 20 limit for households was probably a bit high of a jump. I think it probably should’ve stayed at 5 or went up to 10.

The Government is going all they can to try and contain the virus again. They trusted the general public to continue to do the right thing once restrictions started to ease and the public didn’t. The public needs to start taking responsibility for themselves and stop blaming others for their own faults and that’s for the hotel quarantine bundle as well. Ie; security guards sleeping around. If we do not start going the right thing, who knows how long we’ll be like this for. The testing blitz has been great as it shows those people that disobey the rules that the virus is still out there.

On the radio this morning it was mentioned that there are 22 international flights scheduled into Brisbane in the coming week. I’d think there might be some positive cases discovered during their quarantine stay.

The one case that is left in Queensland is an 81 year old man who has been in hospital on the Gold Coast for the last 4 months trying to recover from the virus.

In Canberra during the restrictions 99% of people kept their distance. Now, over the past month there is almost no social distancing. I try to stay away from others but very few people care.

I really enjoyed people not trying to squeeze past me on the escalator and travelator. But it’s now back normal with people brushing past me on the escalator.

I think the ACT has been lucky that there hasn’t been any more cases.

That happened to me at my local shopping centre on Sunday - in Melbourne.

Yeah I have been back in Adelaide since the pandemic really kicked off. And I noticed social distancing was really followed at the beginning but now its just not followed at all. I find it quite worrying and I do wonder whether other states could be in a similar situation to Victoria in a months time. The Victorian situation just highlights how this virus is probably in our communities undetected and it only takes a few people having it for it to spread if people are not practicing the social distancing guidelines.

I think an outbreak in Sydney is likely; hopefully Canberra and the regional areas don’t follow suit. I am avoiding shopping centres where I can- thankfully most of my essentials can be purchased in Bungendore.

Seems like statewide lockdowns are inevitable. The Covid Crisis Council of Cabinet is meeting right now and a press conference due after lunch.
