Climate, Weather and Emergencies

It is interesting seeing Alfred go for a run down but away from the coast. I remember years ago would spend hours on the Weatherzone forum at these times, I miss now not having that anymore.

Hopefully Ayr (that is near Townsville) was spared

Has a cyclone ever hit Brisbane? Like, ever? Or is Alfred technically the first.

Yes - several times.

Never knew that. You learn something new every day

There is the ski dot com forum if you’re interested; I only post sporadically over there though. Most of the discussion isn’t rigorous enough for my liking and one particular poster really annoys me.

Anthony Cornelius and a few others on FB are worth following. ACs coverage has been quite good with this cyclone. It will be interesting to see what occurs, hopefully not too bad for QLD. It would be great if the cyclone remnants drift south over inland NSW and maybe VIC as these areas are getting desperate, same with SA. This is only a small chance however.

Gulp!

And that rainfall prediction mapping makes for scary reading - one I saw had several hundred mm falling over Brisbane and SEQ. Not what we need on top of an already wet catchment.

I don’t touch FB etc, but will have a glance at ski, thanks!

Several? I knew it had happened. But I thought it was only once or twice in a 100 year period.

Depends on the definition. There have been several that have impacted Brisbane - been offshore or crossed nearby - Redcliffe, Coolangatta. The big floods of 1974 were from Cyclone Wanda.

Cyclone Nancy is an example of one that was just off the coast but never crossed.

Get your supermarket shopping done early folks, they will be wiped mid week and no doubt supply will be limited for a period during and after any rain event.

Some of these areas in SEQ will struggle with those rain forecasts. Gold Coast struggled last year and that was only 150mm. 200-400 is going to be an issue especially if some of that falls over a small duration.

Bog roll and bottled water were in short supply at my local woolies this evening

Don’t want to be one of these folks.

All this build up to this actually makes me want to go watch this episode. :joy:

Hoping our useless premier closes schools and encourages non essential businesses to do the same this week.

Same here (long weekends are nice - ignoring the fact it’s a cyclone )

During Debbie was a nightmare. The Chook coming out and closing everything at the last minute. Too little too late everyone had already left home by then.

I predict the Green Day concert on the GC won’t go ahead Wednesday either.

It’s not often that “Cyclone possible” along with the icon, comes up as a forecast item on a capital city 7 day forecast.
