That is to be expected with the large range (Gibraltar) to the west. I think the Clarence Coast’s biggest storms come from the south or SW where there’s not as much high ground. A storm could form northeast of Ebor and track up the Nymbodia River valley and hit Grafton head on. Certainly around Tucabia and Maclean can see some extremely violent supercells.

Thankfully mostly sunny and 27 here for Grand Final Day (which is forecast to be 3 degrees warmer than Sydney, which is a little bit unusual).

Tornadoes are not ‘unusual’ in Australia, particularly in southern NSW and northern Victoria and also coastal SW WA. There was also a confirmed funnel cloud near Yass and a very suspect radar signature south of Tarago last night. I went up to Tarago to have a look but couldn’t see any damage consistent with a tornado.

Bungendore missed just about everything as usual, thankfully.

Near forest reefs quite often has them going through a downhill valley, the eucalypts with their twisted off tops shows their path, not many people there though.

There’s the rub. It is true that it’s rare for a town to get hit directly, though it does happen once every few years on average. There are dozens of tornadoes each year though, but most only have the cows and eucalypts to bear witness.

There was also a tornado at Myall near Kerang yesterday.

This region is notorious for them. Ie. Marong in 1911, Sandon in 1976, California Gully in 2003, and Axe Creek in 2019.

I remember it well. The green tinge from the Bayswater/Ferntree Gully supercell was ominous.

We could see similar storms next year as the current El-nino breaks down. (Like Autumn 2020)

Well.. Tomorrow is expected to be QUITE a storm outbreak. I won’t be on the forum.. as I’ll be chasing them!

Stretches from Greater Newcastle - Sunshine Coast.

If this morning storm line hits the coastal regions.. the entire outbreak could change (just like what happened a week ago)

Safe to say.. that morning rain band wrecked Tuesdays storms.

Got in position & everything around 4.40pm & then the storm collapsed once it came into Grafton.

Then the Brisbane storms didn’t eventuate at all.

Some of these storm forecasters were saying storms at 9-10pm.. when clearly where I’m from.. it’s too cold for them to form & there’s bugger all fuel for them.

Only my 2nd season chasing & I’m like the only one who is actually applying logic to the situation.

Doesn’t help when ‘Mr Perth-Based’ Storm Forecaster who has started a thing where he charges people $40 for access to all the weather information tools (when the BOM exists for the same damn thing), Posts outdated information & has thumbnails that are legit made to fear monger the public..

No post that I could see from Anthony Cornelius on yesterday’s storm potential. Usually he posts whenever SEQ/Northern NSW has a big storm outbreak. Don’t bother with the likes of Higgins as they are sensationalist; the only time I check them is for storm videos which, by weight of subscriber numbers, are more numerous there than elsewhere. The most significant storm was the one at Alice Springs which did a lot of damage.

Cold again here; we’re getting the Larry Leftovers of a change that brought snow to Tassie yesterday.

There’s more than a few of these sensationalist-type storm chasers/forecasters floating around on social media these days, most worth ignoring for the most part. They love posting the long range forecasts with wildly extreme possible outcomes, but only if you read the fine print deep in the post do they caveat the fact that these forecasts are generally unreliable.

But yes, the grey, damp skies yesterday morning with the scattered showers certainly curtailed any potential of storms in the afternoon. We barely got a handful of drops here once again.

I was going comment yesterday but forgot, it was mentioned on Monday night that Tuesday would be a bit of a fizzer in Brisbane not sure for NSW. In the end that’s how it turned out. We had some rain last night but that was it.
