Cada

Shaboozey’s music is described as a combination of hip-hop, country and rock. Maybe it sounds too country for some.

Good News by Shaboozy isn’t something I would ever expect to hear on edge/cada.

I got an interesting tipoff the other day that Sydney radio station CADA is using an AI avatar instead of an actual radio host.

The story goes that their workdays presenter – a woman called Thy – actually doesn’t exist. She’s a character made using AI, and rolled out onto CADA’s website.

What got my attention is this comment in the article:

“Compare that to the (recently resigned) breakfast presenter Sophie Nathan”.

Here we go again. Another new brekkie show on CADA. Maybe they could re-hire Mike E from SCA? Alternatively, just replace her with another AI announcer.

Is CADA still even a thing? Must be the lowest profile station out there. Seriously don’t know why they bother with it in its current form. Surely at this point it just cannibalises listeners from their precious KIIS. Why don’t they actually do something interesting with the frequency. At least The Edge had some profile and sounded like a proper radio station.

I agree. From all the hype when ARN launched CADA, to now, there’s not much going on.

Flip it to 60s/70s Oldies and reinstate the old 2WS format, focusing on the Golden West. I’d still call it CADA, though, viz:

Calling All Daggy Artists

used to the promoted big time at Kings games - part of the team and all that jazz. Now SEN and Triple M are the radio partners.

Surely a station heavily branded around western Sydney could go off in market these days? Wasted opportunity.

I just had a look at their Facebook page… it’s looking very sad… despite 166K followers, their posts (which are quite seldom) get little to no reactions. A far cry from The Edge days!

Out of curiosity, I had a look at some of the other Western / Sth Western Sydney stations Facebook Pages - Pulse FM, Vintage FM, C91.3, River FM, even Hawkesbury Radio (which is only online) and with much less followers, they appear to have a lot more engagement.

West 96.1 play a variety music format and push heavy with Western Sydney and they could have something that actually gets some attention.

But you don’t see Cada branding, ads anything, heavy or otherwise, in western Sydney. You’re likely to see more KIIS (mainly) and Gold ads.

It’s a bit insane really

Every weekday at 11am, a young woman comes on air at CADA, a radio station in Sydney’s west owned by one of the country’s biggest media companies. But Thy, as she is known, is not real. Workdays with Thy might look and sound much like any other radio program – but its host, who presents four hours of hip hop, is the work of artificial intelligence.

There is no acknowledgement that Thy is not real. If the experiment is successful – and it has broadcast for months without raising alarm – there’s little doubt that radio networks all over the country will try to emulate it.

Yes please !!!

I mean it’s probably more the lack of listeners to notice.

The AI weather reports on the SCA regionals got noted pretty quickly.

More a testament to how nobody listens to Cada than how convincing the AI is

Oh so true. Thy has been part of the CADA lineup for months now… and it has taken this long for any of this to make the news.

Just tear it up and bring back The Edge and Edge Digital already.

The fact Mike E is just washed up doing Hit Weekends, he’d love the opportunity to return to his old stomping ground with a new cohost on brekkie at 96.1FM.

To be fair, the target audience thinks Facebook is for old people and Karen’s…

Although the Instagram page is just as dry.

An older skewing classic hits station like WS used to be, would be a wise investment but heavily brand and target it to Sydney’s West. 60-80’s hits and target a general male/female skew with decent but inexpensive announcers would probably take off.
