Broadcast Facilities

There were for sale signs up around the building at least a few weeks back so I believe neither SCA nor Paramount own it.

From what I understand the current tenants rent it out to SCA, who then rent it out partially to Paramount. I’m pretty sure when I went past then the updated 10 logo without the circle was on the front sign but I’m unsure exactly.

A very well used studio back In it’s hay day, Local news, surprise, surprise & even a magazone program produced at BCV 8 In terms of size I wonder how it compares to Ballarat which was a differenct network but still a main headquarter, Would love to know what happend to the GLV 8 studio here’s a video of a tour from 1984 when the station moved to a new facility on the Princess Hwy:

Yes. Back in the 1980s it was usual for the Surprise Surprise set to be on the cyclorama side, and the news desk on the opposite side (basically where the photo above was shot).

There was also a smaller studio (the original 1961 one) used primarily for interviews, Thought-for-the-Day and some commercials etc.

With a heavy heart I closed the roller door on the GLV studio for the last time in 2008 and they were demolished not long after.

Much like the Bendigo Studios, they were used in a reduced capacity for TVC production and the like right up until the end. Agencies would travel from Melbourne to utilise the space, and it was kept in immaculate condition. Even the audio booth was still used.

At the time, the studio control room had been refurbished as an audio production suite and the remaining majority of the building for ‘On Air’ and sales/admin for 3TR, who’s parent company then owned the site.

Southern Cross had not long merged with Macquarie Media Group and relocated to Breed St in 2008. Ironically, after numerous location changes, the now SCA moved back to Coonoc Rd from 2023 - 2025, renting out space on the first floor above the original studio site.

The original studio, control and audio booths still remain BTV, albeit as storage. Although unfortunately for not much longer.

It is now owned entirely by a private firm and co-tenanted by SCA and another business. Interestingly, the 10 logo you mentioned was updated a week or so before SCA wholly divested its TV assets. Nowadays, SCA retains its salesforce (mainly radio/LiSTNR focused) but provides 3rd party sales representation for 10 regionally in chunks of QLD, NSW/ACT & Vic.

The old main studio for NRTV in Coffs Harbour is being used as a karate dojo from what I know. I think other parts of the building have been leased out as well but still houses SCA’s local radio operations.

The old NBN TV site in Mosbri Crescent Newcastle was demolished earlier this year and is now the subject of a housing development. Not sure if that’s started yet.

Was up at Knights Hill (Illawarra) this morning.

Their local attraction, the Three Towers (beat that Blue Mountains). Pic taken looking west.

Haven’t looked up which one is which yet.

Close up view the two on the left.

The towers on the left are BAI and the one at the right is WIN - prior to DTV starting BAI were talking about demolishing the old self supporting tower(it had a VHF antenna on it - probably CH3). Obviously a good thing they didn’t as it looks to have a UHF array on it now. WIN had a self supporting tower with an old VHF antenna and FM and UHF antennas which looks like it was replaced with the current guyed mast. The BAI guyed mast looks to have a VHF TV array on it now(or maybe its just 2 FM arrays???) which I don’t recall was there back in analog days - back then BAI was all UHF TV. WIN looks to also have FM antennas on it which would definitely be at least i98 and maybe the other commercial FM’s.

For backup program sources Knights Hill can pick up Sydney TV and FM ok.

Hazards at the site include regular cloud cover which reduces driving speed to walking pace and the BAI building garage had a huge tiger snake in it

The self supporting BAI tower would have had a Ch5A antenna on it.
