Broadcast Facilities

You probably could have condensed all these posts into one I’m thinking?

And I thought it wasn’t possible to make more than three posts in a row? That must have changed somewhere with one of the upgrades.

Wasn’t much SC10 there, was supposed to be more but only ended up with SC10 sales moving in not long before SCA totally moved out & into Newcastle CBD. Was originally 2KO back in the 1980’s, then NXFM moved in early 1994. After SCA moved out it spent a few years with very little use but mostly empty, as of last week or the week before it’s now Musos Corner HQ.

Nothing different there now except the sign on the pole out the front, there’s some random business (office) moved in with them with their details also on the sign. I can’t remember who it is but nothing related to SCA or Broadcast Radio or TV.

There were some renovations there a couple of years ago, but I think it was mostly inside the building, they are inside the greenskeepers shed at the Halekulani Bowling Club, they’re lucky to still be there, they have no money, both the studios & transmitter are outside their licence area, when ACMA told them to move they said the cost would send them broke & put them off air, so ACMA let them stay. I know of quite a few people who would like to be involved with the station but can’t get to the studios (too far away) or don’t want to travel there to be involved, if it was at Swansea-Belmont or Morisset-Toronto sort of areas they’d get many more volunteers & funding, they have some Lake Macquarie Sponsors but it doesn’t really serve the Lake Mac community & most of the Lake Mac community aren’t involved with the station, it’s more of a 4th Central Coast Community station, so I’m not sure how they get away with it?

A subject not discussed here has been the final piece in Australia’s aggregation story - namely the aggregation of our 8th state - New Zealand.

What progress, if any, has been made in aggregating NZ so that the citizens there can receive 10, 9 and 7 like most Australians? I think there is scope also for ABC to have a channel - TVNZ rebranded as ABC New Zealand and likewise SBS New Zealand. NITV New Zealand could focus on Maori content. A lot of Maori content could be produced in Sydney as there are plenty of Maori there

All the Australian networks would be retransmitted on a 2 hour negative delay via satellite with say a half hour local news bulletin inserted before the main bulletin coming from Melbourne.

This could result in significant savings in that all the old NZ studios could be sold off and replaced with small, modernized advertising sales offices in each market.

This would increase choice for NZ viewers - a “choice” result you might say! Doable?

The first person to sell a satellite encoder with time-travel functionality would probably make a fair bit of money

Merging the two markets eventually isn’t a bad idea in reality.

It would kill off Kiwi tv quicker than aggregation killed of regional tv in Australia

Is it something the Kiwis actually want??
