British Television

A big turnaround to have subscription content on free to air.

I suspect it’ll be repeats.

Sky One (or whatever Sky channel) gets the premieres, ITV gets the repeats.

Similar to 10 airing NCIS Sydney.

Although I suspect BSkyB would be more inclined to use their content library to strengthen and complement ITV’s, recognising the broadcaster’s long-established reputation and proven track record in producing high-quality drama and comedy.

That’s… more or less what the article said would happen? Also it’s not been called BSkyB for nearly a decade.

Yes, and ‘first-look’ events as well (as in, first episode goes out on both, get Sky if you want to watch the rest.)

The line up for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing is slowly coming into shape. The celebrities confirmed so far are:

Delta Goodrem
Dani Dyer (reality TV contestant)
Lacey Turner (EastEnders actress)
Chris Appleton (hair stylist to the stars)
Cach Mercer (Love Island UK season 12 winner)
Will Best (Big Brother UK host, radio and TV presenter)
Dame Sarah Storey (recently retired Paralympian swimmer and cyclist)

A post was merged into an existing topic: BBC

And I thought our ‘celebrities’ were near the bottom of the tier. Apart from Delta that lineup looks incredibly underwhelming compared to the past when they had the likes of Bill Bailey, Stacey Dooley, Baby Spice and Anastacia.

RATINGS! The #CommonwealthGames opened in Glasgow last night, airing on TNT Sports with the ceremony shown on Channel 5 to a peak audience of just over 900k viewers.

The opening ceremony in 2022, which was fully free-to-air on the BBC, peaked with over 5 million viewers. pic.twitter.com/Qwv9vfal4Y

Glasgow #CommonwealthGames open in front of 800k viewers on Channel 5, plus another 50k on TNTSports2 (the relativity of those numbers illustrates continuing power of free-to-air broadcasting). Event also on BBC Alba, but don’t have numbers. @Glasgow_2026 Ratings data @Digital_i\_ pic.twitter.com/rL0xRGnr9F

UK competition regulator asks interested parties to comment on Sky/ITV deal

The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is seeking the views of interested parties on the expected acquisition of ITV by Sky.

Following the recent announcement by Comcast-owned Sky UK that it intended to acquire ITV M&E Holdings Ltd in a £1.6 billion deal due to close later this year, the CMA has issued an “invitation to comment” asking interested parties to submit “any initial views on the impact that the transaction could have on competition in the UK.”

The invitation forms the first part of the CMA’s information-gathering process ahead of its formal investigation into the deal.

Here’s one…

Under the agreement, Encompass will partner with Channel 4 to provide channel origination, content supply chain and disaster recovery services across its portfolio, including Channel 4, E4, More4, Film4, E4 Extra and 4seven.

Just over 100k watched closing ceremony of #CommonweathGames live on TNTSports2 last night, which seems scant reward for well organised event👏 And Glasgow did look good! Compares to 3.8m on BBC1 in 2022… Different broadcast arrangements required for next Games in India, surely? https://t.co/GrorCcQNmo

RATINGS! Saturday night was a record breaking night for broadcast television, as just 7.7 million total viewers were recorded across the entire 9pm hour, across every TV channel. The lowest since records began.

The previous low was 8 million… the night before. pic.twitter.com/MuHEVFxzKN

Delta Goodrem is set to grace the Strictly Come Dancing stage in September – and has one request about the professional partner she’s paired up with.

While the “Born to Try” singer said she did not have a preference as to which professional dancer she would compete alongside, she did say she would “love to be” paired with someone taller than her because she “doesn’t really want to be the one that has to lift people”.

Goodrem is 5 feet 10 inches tall, and if she got her wish, she would most likely be coupled with either Kai Widdrington or Aljaž Škorjanec, both of whom are over six feet tall.
