Australian Postal Survey on Marriage Law

And churches already deny those of a different religion or affiliation to get married.

Try getting married in Catholic Church if you are of no religion or even Buddhist.

Apart from poll results:

The Australian Bureau of Statistics will release a progress report at 5pm tomorrow and will publish weekly estimates of voter turnout until the survey closes on 7 November.

Remember this so-called ‘debate’ is happening because of the divided LNP; so divided by those in it who are against a ‘free vote’ (conscience vote), and insist on increasing public divisions just so they can have some point of difference with Labor.

Should sporting organisations not support their marginalised players?
Should the organisations not push back against racism as well?

It’s not an easy ‘stay out of it’ choice; such silence itself suggests a tacit support of the status quo, including the sometimes appalling verbal abuse (& even violence) against people just because of the colour of their skin, or in this case their sexual orientation.

Also remember, it’s the LNP who decided this thing should go on for another month; at least several weeks longer than necessary for a postal survey.

Wow, a politician saying don’t trust politicians. How ridiculous. We have already entrusted our elected representatives to make & amend laws, that’s their job, and to suggest anything else is disingenuous to say the least.
That choice is who we elect & send to parliament; the anti-politician nonsense has to stop.
Anyone that runs is by definition a politician. Trump & Abbott are politicians; appalling ones but politicians.
At the next election choose wisely who who your MP & senators are to be, look at how they’ve done their jobs, but how you respond (‘vote’) in this survey has nothing to do with that.

In this survey you’d be saying yes to getting rid of a piece of discrimination Howard made law. That’s it. We’re not giving up any rights.
Howard is trying to fuck it up, like he did the republic, just to push his own personal views on the rest of us (including his bigotry).

Orwell’s dystopian world is coming from other changes, including the ‘fake news’ from Trump & Russia, the tracking devices we’ve been carrying in our pockets for how many years now and facebook & Google tracking us everywhere we go on the Internet, police number plate recognition data being held indefinitely, CCTV cameras (just visit London to see that extreme).

Removing a form of legislated discrimination has nothing to do with that.

This dragged-on, unnecessary, expensive ‘debate’, is fuelling division & that’s what the worst of our politicians want; they thrive & succeed when they divide us.
Howard (Mr ‘non-core promises’, ‘children overboard’) used this tactic with outright lies to win an election.
Abbott has followed (but less successfully) a similar approach with divisive statements like ‘stop the boats’, ‘Whyalla will be wiped off the map’, ‘no cuts’, and other lies.

Don’t give in to fear; don’t be manipulated by the lies Howard, Abbott & co. are peddling.

There’s nothing to be afraid of from removing this discrimination.

If you’re so upset about this divisive survey/debate remember that at the next federal election and vote against the LNP (& other right-wing/conservatives) as they’re who inflicted it on everybody.

Never heard of Macklemore until a few days ago, and never heard his song until today. Though I only played the first thirty seconds or so then stopped it. He has no relevance to me nor to this survey.

Although Abbott has sent the song to No.1 during the vote. It’s his best political achievement thus far.

Stop the world, I want to get off.

Is Elon Musk taking bookings?

He is but he’s looking for much younger candidates for the 30 year trip to Mars.

So 2GB and 3AW, the radio stations who spent so much time arguing to repeal the law supposedly to allow free speech, chose to censor Mackelmore’s performance during the Grand Final. Hippocrites.

It also has to be said that Nine aired an anti-same sex marriage ad during the ad break after the Macklemore’s performance last night. From what I saw, there was a fair bit of outrage on social media about that too!

Ah cool.

At least Nine aired a commercial for the No campaign, thus allowing both sides some representation. 2GB and a lot of conservatives are too frightened of this debate.

That was their prerogative but that’s not censorship. That is them being balanced, as long as the campaign paid the huge premiums that is usually commanded during the grand final.

There could be some fallout over Hadley playing the parody of the song instead of the real thing.

The NRL should ask 2GB to not broadcast rugby league games, considering the NRL has taken the position of supporting LGBT team members and staff, and 2GB explicitly mocked that while profiting off the sport.

Maybe they could be fined for mocking the performance in the middle of the official telecast. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I completely agree.

Whenever the radio broadcasting rights are next up for grabs, that’s the perfect opportunity for the NRL to take the broadcasting rights off 2GB/MRN and give them to someone else.

The ACMA should defiantly have a look it this…

Hadley: “I thought John Farnham should have been there”. Jimmy Barnes, Olivia Newton-John and Julie Anthony on backup?

No need to be defiant.

You cannot make this shit up. Abbott wanted a band whose lead member is openly gay.
