Australian Postal Survey on Marriage Law - Media Coverage

Ten News only showed the No campaigners who were gracious in defeat and congratulated the Yes campaigners. And the politicians who are planning to thwart the vote in parliament looking very glum. That’s more than enough.

I see what you mean.
Ideally they’d focus on the yes and the next steps, rather than dredge up negativity and rehash the fear mongering from the advertising. But fear gets ratings… to a point… I hope we get past that point.

Funny considering Dudney is one of the so-clawed gay capittals of the world.

Which is exactly how the three inner city and east Sydney electorates voted, two 80% + yes, the other 79.9% yes.

Yes I know but something is a tad askew when Sydney - apparently one of the “gayest” cities on the planet - votes 55% yes and is the lowest-voting Yes capital city, while Tasmania, Brisbane and Melbourne vote 65%.

Thank you for making that statement, Juanita. Was it black for a No vote?

An old fashioned assumption that mournfulness is associated with black. Juanita may well have worn a colourful dress regardless of the result.

Your conservative views are well documented. Please leave them in the 1950s with the other 38%.

You do understand the difference between a CITY and a STATE? Surely.

Yes, Metropolitan Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne had higher support for SSM than metro Sydney. Edit: Jens is kinda correct.

Both Melbourne and Sydney had 83.7% of yes votes. Perth and Adelaide had 71.5 and 70.1% respevtively and Brisbane 79.5%.

She said 55% of sydeny voted yes. That’s false. Again the concsrrvaives clutching at straws.

And Rowan dean is on sky saying that people now want polygamy introduced. He’s also arguing that western Sydney labor mps should vote against the legislation. And now he’s also saying that this was never about gay marriage.

No she’s not. That’s the thing. She’s right.

Regional NSW was more supportive than the urban area of Sydney. Western Sydney was the most homophobic area in the country and one seat in Sydney had 70% voting No. The majority of seats which voted no nationwide were in the urban area of Sydney.

Don’t beat around the bush, Sydney underperformed.

There’s a difference between being homophobic and having socially conservative views. Half the people in the electorate are religious, either Islamic or Catholic. How about a bit of respect for those who hold views that differ from yours? I’d hate to think how certain fringe elements of the “yes” campaign would be reacting tonight had the vote gone the other way.

How about no. Voting to deny the rights of others is a form of discrimination, therefore homophobia. It shows they think of us as lesser citizens.
