At the Hoo Hoo Lookout car park.
Swan Hill and Launceston ABC stations coming into Melbourne.
Coast FM Warrnambool over Triple M Shepparton
Thanks so in Mount Gambier, interesting that the Mixx 93.7 RDS seems to get out okay to the west, but not east.
Similar stuff here last night/ earlier this morning with Mt Gambier, Launceston and King Island all listenable.
Can’t get 2XL Perisher from the south facing hill here (normally a fair signal), so they might well be off air. I could easily get 2MNO on both 90.5 and 93.3, though nothing from Jindabyne.
Just had a possible 5 second Ms ping of Hit Albany 95.3 while listening to Coast fm. I checked the webstream of every high power 95.3 in Australia and it was the only one that matched. The 10-element antenna is also pointed right at it.
Long log time! DXed from a few different spots around Mt Hotham this morning as it wasn’t possible to find a single spot with a good takeoff in all directions, so this is a combined log. So some frequencies will have two or more stations listed.

100.5 7NT Devonport
101.3 HPON Devonport
Oddly no 7AD/Sea though or Chili.
Possibly a spur from 89.7 Bright?
Bright was only weak here, i can’t imagine it’d be that… but yes that has me stumped… was running same content as 97.1 Orbost and 97.7 Shepparton.
Mt Tassie is a pretty impressive beast to the north east… Tonight in my motel room at Lakes Entrance, 137 km away as the crow flies, I can get decent ABC reception from all 4 networks, even TRFM 99.5 can be received okay too, despite all the motel room hash.
Tropo going back the other way too now, getting western stuff like strong Mixx 106.3, Coast 95.3 and Mt Gambier
Currently at Bombala NSW for lunch (on the way back home via tCanberra for a couple of nights).
Had Ntn Tasmania ABCs pretty much all the way from Lakes Entrance to about 30 kms south of Bombala since some stations share frequencies eg. 91.7 and 92.5. Thought was quite impressive (about 500 kms).
Tropo coming in from all directions in Sydney today:
Managed to get Tamworth, which is one of the rarer tropo targets to receive from my locaiton.
It’s from Harrietville, the town at the foot of Hotham on the NW side. That had me stumped too. I think it’s listed on the ACMA radcomms but not on the official lists.
I had Hobart, Mount Gambier and Warrnambool from Mount Hotham back in January. Hobart was huge one night with clear reception of Vision 104.3. I had Warrnambool on 92.1 which you can’t do now, unless the Star becomes a black hole of course.
Thanks! First time I’ve heard an ABC Local Radio station in the 98 mhz range.
There’s also meant to be a 3VKV (Alpine Radio) translator for Harrietville on 94.5, but I’ve never heard that one on air. I could receive JJJ Shepparton even in the town during my visit, so not the best choice of frequency for that one.
Both 3VKV and 3ABCRR are self help services from what I understand. Harrietville is a nice place with a stonking good bakery.
I don’t recall hearing 3VKV on 94.5 but like you say easy to miss it given how strong Triple J is there. And yes, very odd choice of frequency!
I don’t find 98.7 3ABCRR TX listed in ACMA RadComm either, but it is listed on the wikipedia page:
From the webpage of Alpine FM from a August 2025 posting they don’t mention 94.5FM either, just;
“Listen in on 96.5 FM in the Kiewa Valley, 92.9 FM in the Ovens Valley, or stream us live at www.alpinefm.org.au. Happy listening.”
Probably never got to air, but I thought I recall seeing it listed years ago on their website, but I could be totally wrong about that.
I assume 98.7 from this TX site:
https://web.acma.gov.au/rrl/site_proximity.for_site?pSITE_ID=153115
Can anyone find the ACMA LAP doc for this location?
Good reception from Central Q in SEQ this afternoon.
