AM and FM DX

I tried DXing on my north facing balcony last night with my rabbit ears and furthest north i got was Cairns ABCs.

Also had a scratchy Kool FM Innisfail, and Mackay ABCs, Hit100.3, Star 101.9 and 4TAB 103.5. But not 98.7 MMM for some reason.

Did some AM DXing tonight

@dxnerd will be pleased to know I heard 2CR Orange 549. Also managed to get a few other NSW stations despite being so far up north. Heard SRN AFL coverage on 1080 2MO and 1251 2DU. And had other ABCs on 702 and 738.

Also heard an ABC on 1062ā€¦ suspect this might be 4TI Thursday Island as I didnā€™t hear any VIC or SA stations. First time Iā€™ve heard that one.

Heard a foreign language station on 909, I know not one of ours since we donā€™t use that frequency in Australia, but no idea what language or where from.

Tried for Japanese FM (a real long shot anyway), but discovered the TEF will only do 65-74 MHz, not 76 MHz up? Nothing from 65-74 anyway.

Something in the settings? Mine does 65-108 MHz.

909kHz could be one of those Chinese ā€œflamethrowerā€ transmitters. 500kw or something.

You should also be able to get 585 NBC ā€˜Real PNGā€™ from Pot Mosbi, even during the daytime.

Ref @Radiohead . Yes @melb_mateyy0
In MAIN SETTINGS ā†’ FM Settings ā†’ Set low band edge.
Iā€™m on firmware Rel 2.11
Might have to turn radio off & on again for change to take effect.

Thanks, I should have realised that.

Did a bit of AM DX on the TEF tonight
A few highlights include
Newstalk ZB Northland on 1215 (local HPON went off air a month or two ago when it converted to 87.6 FM taking the spot of Visitor Radio)
Newstalk ZB Timaru on 1152 under 2WG
Unknown Station under 2KY on 1017 (Tonga?)
6WF Perth on 720 (able to identify as 6WF could not broadcast the Olympics due to rights issues as Nine owns 6PR on 882)
The Chinese Powerhouse on 909, probably the same one that Radiohead got in Townsville (CNR-6)

Shame about visitor radio, not many of them left.

You can bet 87.6 is well over one watt to replicate the AM 1215 coverage. Solus market and all, ACMA wonā€™t mind, you can run your AM commercial on your HPON remember.

Good catch!

FM Bandscan yesterday (29 July) 12 floors up at Broadbeach. About 40m up from street level. Yes, I am aware that my reflection can be seen in the screen, lol.

Evie goes for so long, itā€™s still going on 99.4 (from 90.5).

What is 103.1? Canā€™t be Grafton as no 104.7?

Nice! Wonder what youā€™d pick up from the top of the Q1 building

To give you an idea, these are my notes from one time when I was staying on the 74th floor at the Meriton in Surfersā€¦ there were only really a few extra stations that can you canā€™t get at lower floors

Not sure what 103.1 is. Canā€™t find anything on the official lists. Could either be a pirate or a harmonic.

I thought it might be the community station at Grafton.

Getting FM104.7 at Surfers is usually not achievable, let alone 2CVC.

Nice scan video @Mechsta :+1: Thereā€™s even been some recent RDS changes probably since @Radiohead was there last week that Iā€™ve just updated the RDS List with. Iā€™ll make more comments over in the RDS thread in a few moments. :sunglasses:
