AM and FM DX

If you can null 747 Hobart or Dalby, you should be able to receive 6SE from Esperance. I’ve received it when less than 250km from Dalby.

What is your setup?

RE: 6SE 747 - I have heard it. See here - https://youtu.be/aF4qKHYf_9g

I have a Matchmaster omnidirectional Fm antenna connected to a Matchmaster 30dbv UHF / VHF / FM masthead amp.
I am assisted by excellent LOS to the north.

My LOS to the north is so good I have weak permanent reception of Hit 106.9 and 102.9 Triple M Newcastle with no co-channel from VOX and 2ST.

Weak tropo from the north is enough to bring up 98.7 Middle Brother with noisy stereo. With strong tropo Middle Brother and the Newcastle signals are close to local strength.

Went up to Braye Park Lookout in Newcastle today and got some weakish North Coast and North West enhancement.

Triple M Coffs Harbour faded in and out, along with News Radio Western NSW. 107.1 ABC Western Plains was there. Coffs Coast ABCs were stable, wasn’t able to get Kempsey commercials though.

ABCs from Tamworth, Upper Namoi and Armidale were received too.

Best of all was a scratchy and kind of distorted sounding News Radio on 98.5 from Lismore. Haven’t received that there before.

not much DX this morning 21st April. Just 6VA Albany WA (glad I caught this before it converts to FM).

That is quite a good catch, Lismore (Mt Nardi) from Newcastle with only marginal enhancements.

Yesterday morning I had the Tamworth national fm’s on my car radio in car park at Stanhope Gardens shops.

BTW what is the furthest south down the coast have the Gold Coast Fm stations been received with tropo?

In my experience, they don’t travel very well down the coast.

The furthest south I think I have received them is only around Woodburn.

Not a big DXer but I was scrambling on the AM band last night trying to find the EPL last night on the way home. Put the radio on Auto scan and picked up 2EC as clear as you like just going past Mt sugarloaf on the M1

I’ve had Gold Coast in Coffs Harbour before.

RNZ National is popping up on 567 here in Melb! It matches with the online audio stream!!! (The quality is a bit scratchy but it’s audible!) :grinning:

That would be their Wellington transmitter. Output is 60kw ERP.

A bit of enhancement about tonight.

Faint and scratchy ABC stations from the South Coast (103.5 easiest to receive, 101.9 also heard) and ABCs from Canberra (102.3 and 103.9 easiest to get).

Some early morning inland tropo at my location at Stanhope Gardens. The duct is favouring Canberra and Goulburn.
Eagle fm in stereo with RDS.
103.9 News Radio Canberra fading up to being quite strong at times.
102.3 is a battle between ABC Classic Fm and Triple J Central West Slopes. Mix 106.3 is the only commercial fm being received.

That’s one of my main spots for DXing as well, maybe we’ll run into each other some day lol.

Try near the water tower at Acacia Gardens, best spot for dxing in the area. Excellent LOS to the north and the west, and quite good to the south aswell.

with 2XL/t 98.7 off air at present, was able to hear 2KRR Kandos 98.7 via tropo this morning. Heard playing Jazz music before heading off to work.

2KRR is one of the few community stations that is better on horizontal polarisation. 2BAB also changed from vertical to mixed a while back.
