Plus how often was it touted that the major prize in those was “for your school”?

He hosted Seven’s revival of _The Mole_, which premiered on this day in 2013.

It flopped badly in the ratings to the point where it got shafted to a 10:30pm timeslot on Wednesday nights, and the season dragging out longer than desired. I think the idea was that there would be three episodes a week, with an elimination every third episode or so, until a final week of eliminations and the winner/Mole being revealed at the very end.

Not really.

> Industry insiders feared what the removal of commercial quotas on children’s content in 2020 would mean for local content. Six years later, their worst fears seem to have been realised.

> Nicholas Verso knows a thing or two about making children’s television. He’s won a Logie for his series Crazy Fun Park, and an Australian Directors’ Guild Award for his work on Grace Beside Me. More recently, Invisible Boys, though catering to a slightly older audience, made such waves at home and abroad that it earned a coveted Peabody nomination.
>
> Yet, even with this impressive resume, Verso’s new ideas are falling on deaf ears. “People don’t even want to hear the pitch,” he says. “The ABC is the only door you can really knock on … No other network or streamer is interested in [young] audiences. YA is a dirty word in Australian commissioning now.”
>
> In 2020, the then-Coalition government removed commercial quotas on children’s content. New research suggests that triggered a 97 per cent collapse in the total investment in commercial kids’ television. While mega-popular shows like _Bluey_ and _Play School_ continue building their empires, the commissioning of new shows has largely fallen by the wayside.

Children’s Programs in Australia these days is extremely low. Sadly, game shows for children is non-existent these days - outside of Hard Quiz Kids. And has been for i say, a decade? Which is a shame.

At least It’s Academic repeats is still airing - even if it is on 7flix weekdays at an early timeslot.

10 is crazy not to have any game shows for children, given they have Nickelodeon.

AFAIK, after-school children’s programming ceased either in 2012 or 2013; in the latter year, Seven premiered “The Daily Edition” in the middle of the year which initially aired at 3:00pm and went for 90 minutes, leading into Seven’s afternoon news.

From memory “Wipeout” replaced “Amazing” at 4.00pm. Wipeout also screened in the mid morning time slot when school holidays were scheduled.

Wipeout was then replaced by the Big Arvo, Girl TV and then its Academic.

This, I believe, was the show that launched James (Jesse) Tobin’s career. He would then host his own show at 4:00pm, “Go Go Stop”.

So it was the following

1994 Amazing
1999 Wipeout
2000 Big Arvo
2003 Girl TV
2004 Go Go Stop
2007 It’s Academic

I vaguely remember some kids drama tv shows around 1999 / 2000 based on a paddle steamer with ghosts.
