The AFL has confirmed the new start date for 2025 season.
ARIA award-winning group Lime Cordiale will perform at the AFLW grand final pre-match entertainment on November 30.
2024 W Awards
Triple Adelaide premiership player Ebony Marinoff has won this year’s AFLW Best and Fairest award, to add to her Rising Star victory in 2017.
The 2024 All-Australian Team was announced earlier.
Fremantle’s Madi Scanlon has claimed the 2024 Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award for her volunteer work at Melaleuca Women’s Prison as a Sporting Mentor, and as a surf instructor for Ocean Heroes.
Port Adelaide’s Matilda Scholz was named Telstra Rising Star, and won Mark of the Year, while Adelaide forward Hannah Munyard has taken out Goal of the Year.
UPDATE 26/11
More awards for Ebony Marinoff, named AFLPA MVP and best captain at AFL Players Association awards night tonight.
I mean, they could’ve booked out Docklands for the weekend in case a Victorian team hosted it, and there are 10 Victorian clubs. However, clearly they didn’t think of that since there is now some other even on there.
Ikon use to have a decent 25k capacity, but recent redevelopments have reduced it to 14k.
And turned down the concerts recently, tell the Renegades they can’t play there as soon as they’d like “just in case” etc.?
It’s no longer a suitable venue for big matches. When the heritage listed stands are finally knocked down when they catch fire or implode they can hopefully build some nice big stands.
They can still hold concerts there before the match day - Renegades would be a tougher issue though.
Either way, they will need to look at a bigger stadium in the future, whether that is an upgrade of a smaller stadium, or scheduling the season earlier.
North Melbourne are the AFLW Premiers for the first time, beating Brisbane 6.3 (39) to 1.3 (9) in tonight’s grand final, in front of 12,122 fans at Ikon Park. It is the reversal of last year’s decider. It is the Kangaroos’ first senior silverware since the men’s team claimed the 1999 AFL flag.
North Melbourne becomes the first team in AFL/AFLW history to go through the entire season unbeaten. Libby Birch becomes the first player in VFL/AFL history, male or female, to win three premierships at three different clubs.
Jasmine Garner was named best on ground with 35 disposals, the most ever in an AFLW grand final. She received 11 votes from the four judges, with teammate Emma Kearney second with eight votes.
Only having the capacity for 12,122 to be there tonight shows it is really not fit to be the premier venue for AFLW in Victoria.
Being “full” but having a grandstand empty because it’s too dangerous is so absurd. The “heritage” of Princes Park is being a football stadium - not any given stand, especially given they were happy to paint sponsorship all over it…
Takes a bit off the win given how few North fans could be there to watch it.
The post match presentation stage of the AFLW grand final is the same one used in the AFL decider in September, with three LED panels and an accessible ramp.
Interesting to note she achieved this against one club (Brisbane Lions).
I wouldn’t have expected it to be. If the Lions won, they might have. Wasn’t on the main Seven network TV channel either.
Will be interesting if the Heat get a mention on the front page of the Courier Mail tomorrow, particularly if they lose.
Joyce was contracted until the end of the 2026 season, having only signed an extension in June.
