The appointment builds on 72andSunny’s experience in sport. Globally, the agency has worked with brands including adidas, Under Armour, and the NFL. More locally in ANZ, 72andSunny’s recent projects include Google’s partnership with the AFL and AO (Australian Open).

Dangerfield, who is also the AFL Players Association president, has long campaigned for the AFL to reduce the length from the current form of 20 minutes, plus time-on.

I don’t hate the idea. It could keep the older stars in the game even longer. I’m not sure it should be 16 minutes though. But 18 isn’t too drastic.

Former league CEO Gillon McLachlan and retired premiership player Zach Tuohy (who is in the jungle for the current season of I’m a Celebrity) are among 12 people who will receive AFL life memberships this year.

Sydney and GWS did not have any players represented in the All-Stars squad.

UPDATE: hours after the squad was unveiled, Liam Jones was ruled out of the match after suffering a high-grade hamstring strain during match simulation on the Sunshine Coast. He will sidelined for at least two months.

West Coast star forward Liam Ryan is free to play in the Indigenous All-Stars match after being cleared over his involvement in a street fight recently.

What the fuck? Damn :disappointed_relieved:

A very touching tribute from @WestCoastEagles for their fellow Eagle Adam Hunter prior to training. @AFL @10NewsFirstPER pic.twitter.com/PXJk0UVuRJ

Gee it’s been a rough week for the footy world.

Despite not at all supporting West Coast, I have some fond memories of Adam Hunter. Uncanny ability to swing a game when switching forward - made Woosha look like a genius coach by doing it too.

And of course, not many players can claim to have kicked the goal that wins their team the grand final, but he did.

Just so sad…

The AFL reported an underlying operating surplus of $45.4 million in 2024, compared with an underlying operating surplus of $27.7 million in 2023 - an increase of $17.7 million. This result includes the AFL’s controlled state subsidiaries and Marvel Stadium.

The AFL’s operating revenue increased by $72.3 million due to a combination of contractual increases in broadcasting revenue, improved returns from Marvel Stadium, sponsorship and other consumer related revenues.

Expenditure increased by $27.5 million due to a combination of revenue-related increases including the higher level of depreciation of Marvel Stadium post the completion of the Marvel Stadium upgrade.

With some of the lowest amounts of indigenous players hopefully the AFL can invest some of the money in communities. Some of our greatest moments are those involving our indigenous players. As a port supporter Byron pickets shoulder bump in the grand final lives in my head rent free.

Or they can do both as well as more investment in women’s footy
