Hunter is okay it sounds like he is reading a script - says the same thing every time. At least change it up from time to time… Speak/have a conversation with the crowd not just read a script!

Well, got that wrong. Finally (don’t jinx it Sully ) we have a cracker Grand Final, best since 2016’s Sydney v Bulldogs IMO. Plenty of highlights and lowlights for both teams thus far, a few standout performers for both too. AFL and Seven would be happy. I reckon Lions perhaps punching a tad above their weight ATM too. Bring on the second half…

Also, I thought the Pre Match went better than most expected, but not quite 100% amazing like last year’s Robbie Williams, the huge production looked spectacular that’s for sure, the one huge pushing point for a night or twilight GF, as well as Seven’s ratings share too.

Hopefully we see it go straight down to the wire.

Collingwood won a pulsating grand final against Brisbane by just four points, 12.18 (90) to 13.8 (86). They finally gained revenge over the Lions for the losses in 2002 and 2003.

It was a game of two halves, a high scoring first half and an inaccurate, defensive second half.

Nick and Josh Daicos join their father Peter as premiership players.

The Pies now join Essendon and Carlton with 16 VFL/AFL premierships.

That questionable advantage call at the end was the final defining moment that got Collingwood over the line.

One of the greatest Grand Finals ever, as a neutral kudos to the Pies, but bugger they’re now equal with Essendon (and Carlton) as the most successful club of all time (16)… Feel so much for the Lions, thought they’d find a way to get over the line at the very end there, they shouldn’t be too hard on themselves, I also admire Chris Fagan. As BT might say, boy oh boy woweeeee, so much to discuss into the evening!

Well it looks like we will be hearing about this umpire decision for the foreseeable future.

In a game like today, with that margin at the final siren and all day, there’ll be just about every decision scrutinised and talked about blah blah, but at the end of the day, clutch from the Pies in those last 25sec to read the room and just hold onto it

Some will be happy with the results, some will be sad, some will be meh, but geez it was a bloody fantastic game.

Strange that Nine’s afternoon news that finished after the end of the game announced the score when there was 20 seconds to go, then went to ads and weather but didn’t announce the result of the game.

Bobby Hill won the Norm Smith Medal for his four goals in the first half.

Edit: Hill won the medal with maximum 15 votes, getting three votes from all five judges. Keidean Coleman came second with five votes.

Some good, nice comments to the Lions too, there just had to be a loser sadly, it’s inches, ecstasy and agony, unreal just 4 points

Finally a good grand final. September 30 grand finals have been fun

1989 - That Cats vs Hawks epic
2006 - Eagles vs Swans 2.0.
2017 - Richmond breaks 37 year drought, The Killers sing Mr Brightside 14 years after its release and Riewoldt steals the show
2023 - Collingwood defeats Brisbane in the best grand final in years after a few blowouts

I feel that clubs generally (not always) need to lose a Grand Final before they win one.

Some examples below:
2023 Collingwood (losing to WCE in 2018)
2022 Geelong (losing to RICH in 2020)
2018 West Coast (losing to HAW in 2015)
2013 Hawthorn (losing to SYD in 2012)

For all the talk that Brisbane can’t play at the MCG, they did really well today and didn’t look to struggle on the MCG stage. It was a cracker match and could’ve gone either way. On reviewing the game, one thing I would’ve tried to avoid was the late fadeouts in quarters where Collingwood kicked goals in the last few minutes of quarters. If in possession, just chip it around and play down the clock to avoid any score against. I back them to be up around the mark again however they can’t continue to waste opportunities as they just don’t get back to finals, prelim finals and grand finals out of no where.

I’d say it has been the best GF I’ve seen in my 15 years watching Grand Finals. Before today, I would’ve said 2018 however this surpasses that as the game was pretty much goal for goal all game. I don’t even think the margin got beyond 15 points all game!

Bring on the rest of the AFLW season now. There really should be a game tonight! Nothing on the TV at all now that the GF is finished.

The pace of the first half in that heat really had an impact in the second half (especially towards the end of the match). At the end of the day a close match, but one that could have had a significantly different result if Collingwood had kicked better - having some of the 18 behinds be majors instead would have given the game a very different look.

I think we put too much emphasis on the difficulty of playing at the MCG to the detriment of talking about things like we have a finals series where every game is played at or approaching night time yet the final is in the afternoon - if there is a desire to keep the afternoon timeslot, how about playing some more games in the afternoon.
