True! Except cookies. They can be tough.
No, I said biscuit. This is Australia god damn it!
A good point regarding the fixture was brought up by the Footy Classified panel tonight. This weekend there are no NRL matches in Sydney due to their Magic Round being played in Queensland, yet there are no AFL matches scheduled in Sydney in what wouldāve been a perfect weekend to attract some new supporters. Collingwood and Sydney play at the MCG on Sunday afternoon, and even though as a Collingwood supporter I think it will be a fantastic game in Melbourne, at the same time this couldāve been a massive game if it was played at the SCG.
Tasmania makes sense, but I really struggle to see a need for a 20th team other than a rounds issue, and I donāt think thatās a valid enough reason.
I say get rid of GWS and the Suns and youāve sorted out the rounds issue.
I am going to die on this hill and I donāt give a f**k.
Cool but GWS almost won a flag and seems to be getting a foothold. GC on the other handā¦ maybe thereās an argument to merge that with Tassie. The Tasmanian Suns doesnāt quite work though.
the problem with the good coast, as opposed to say brisbane or sydney is twofold, and its the same issue the NRL has with the titans.
the first is that the population is not a stable population. sure youāve got your retirees and younger families, but young families especially get pushed out of the market and move north to Logan to be closer to brisbane. Younger people (18 to say 23) will move to the coast for things like uni, party and spend time on the beach and by the time they graduate they move back to sydney or melbourne
the next major thing is that there is no clearly defined CBD unlike Brisbane or Sydney for example. the population is just a smear down the coast, so no matter where you base a team it will still be a decent hike for some people. in a highly competitive tourist market asking someone to trek 20km to a stadium (if they are at palm beach itās 19km) to is an ask.
the big missed thing here is the public transport, i keep hearing the tram will have a spur added off to carrrera but until it does, it will keep crowds down. Tourists wonāt go if public transport is hard, and it makes it hard for locals because parking needs to be pre-booked so you canāt make a spur of the moment decision to go to the game
Lowest average attendance to date this season: 9345
Average home attendance in the high 4 figures-low 5 figures.
Their highest attendances are all against the Swans.
Not a good look.
And i wonder how many of those GWS tickets are given away through schools etc to get people to attend?
The competition supported Sydney and Brisbane when faced with similar challenges in their formative years. There is the question of how long can it continue, but and no doubt AFL House will have timeframes set as to when improvement must be achieved. Getting yourself in a tiz about there existence isnāt worth the energy.
Well we havenāt seen any and weāre in the Blacktown LGA.
Iām not expanding any additional energy into my belief that GWS can f**k off. Iām stating the facts in the traditional ECC-style people around here are used to.
Oh donāt worry, Iām used to your style, but it does get tiresome reading the same rubbish continually.
And?
Self gratification only goes so far in a discussion forum.
A woman has fallen from the second level at Docklands tonight
Far out, hope theyāre ok.
I was going to post some jovial stuff but Iāll wait until tomorrow - mainly just between another war brewing for Jeremy Rockliff and Tasmanians about the team which is getting quite brutal. Just doesnāt feel right to post now after that last post, I really hope the person is ok.
Agree, football stadiums are amongst the worst places to have a fallā¦. Thereās nothing much other than concrete and steel to fall ontoā¦ Just hope it was an accident and nothing worse.
People are saying that she slipped and went over the barriers - the steps arenāt very wide so it was a possibility.
EDIT: Fox Footy reported this:
The Brisbane Lions have notched its fifth straight win after beating Carlton by 26 points. I was a bit Skeptical about Lions struggling this year, but I think they are finding their form with new recruit Jack Gunston. Lions have capitalised from last weekās victory over Freo.
And Lions will have to travel back home and face against the Dons next Saturday night.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman told news.com.au on Saturday the woman was in a stable condition in hospital.
āParamedics were called to a report of a fall just after 6pm last night,ā the spokeswoman said.
āA woman was treated for lower body injuries and taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.ā
Victoria Police told news.com.au on Saturday they were aware of the incident and they believed the woman was not in a serious condition.
