Yes. Sun FM, Shepparton was fantastic during the 90s and early 2000s. Never the same after it converted.

Can’t remember if this was discussed here or not, but I drove through territory of 2QN’s Cobram translator today and, holy crap how awful does that thing sound? Like listening to radio broadcast from a 16kbps MP3 or over a telephone line.
I heard them play Flame Trees by Cold Chisel, and you could barely hear the melody or the vocals. Awful to listen to - you’d have been better broadcasting the AM signal than this.
For a translator with RDS and a half-decent reach, you’d think they’d put some effort. I hope it’s just a temporary issue, but it sounded like part of the furniture. If so, I feel sorry for the people of Cobram.

What was the reception of 106.1 like there?
By memory from when I was last up there Edge 102.5 got into Cobram very well, but I note that 106.1 is licensed for 1000W compared to Edge’s 2000W.

Don’t recall hearing 106.1 there. I didn’t get to Cobram proper, just drove the highway from Shep to Tocumwal.
So it is. My sleep deprivation got it mixed up with 2QN on 1521AM.
That explains Cobram then since they won’t be able to take an off air feed like they do with Edge.

Current Chief Marketing Officer Grant Johnstone has also been appointed to the newly created position of Chief Operations Officer (COO).
As part of a broader operational review, the ACE Radio group has been exploring revised regional operational groupings designed to improve efficiency, accountability, and support structures across the business.
As a result, regional management has divided into two main groups:
Northern Region: Swan Hill, Deniliquin/Echuca, Albury, Wangaratta, Horsham
Southern Region: Colac, Warrnambool, Hamilton, Gippsland
3CS and MIXX FM General Manager Nick Hay will lead the Southern Region, whilst Group Local Sales Director Paul Gadsden will oversee the Northern Region.
I would have gone Eastern Region and Western Region myself. In terms of geography it is a long way between Hamilton and Gippsland for example in the Southern Region.
Eastern: Albury, Wangaratta, Gippsland, Deniliquin/Echuca
Western: Colac, Warrnambool, Hamilton, Horsham, Swan Hill

The geography makes Gippsland far from everywhere else. According to Google, driving distance from Traralgon to Hamilton, Deniliquin and Albury are all about the same (just over 5 hours).
True, Gippsland is far from them all, although do the licence areas of 3NE/Star FM overlap with Gippsland at all in the mountains?
Also, separating Hamilton from Horsham seems odd given they’re only 1.5 hours from each other and the coverage areas there would definitely overlap.
That’s a good point. The other thing I note is their break down of South and North puts 9 stations in the North and 8 in the South. As even as it gets in dividing the network up.
With SCM having to divest their Mildura licence It will be Interesting to see If ACE moves & buys the licence & either re-brand the station as MIXX-FM or create a totally new brand for the market.

I was pleasantly surprised to hear 3WM with a mostly music format this afternoon. I was listening through the Ararat repeater on 96.1. This has very good coverage almost all the way to Hamilton (where SA FM Mt Gambier starts interfering). 98.5 also gets out well and battles with RN Portland, a bit of a strange frequency choice there and you also have 3APL Bacchus Marsh on 98.5.
Together with 94.5 at Nhill, 3WM have basically a pseudo FM conversion setup.
I must admit I forgot the frequencies for the Ararat repeaters, having to rely on my car’s auto store feature! There’s a first for everything. I did remember Ararat had a 92.9 but that is the God Squad as I found out to my chagrin.

Do they have to sell one licence or both of them?
On you logic on having Wangaratta match up with Gippsland, Well that happend with SCA with Shepparton and the North East Radio Station with Gippsland. I know alot of people in Shepparton does not want to hear news from Gippsland (Let Alone from the North East too but that another point!!!) and cause a lot of frustration inside the team and outside.
I think the North South Divide is better

I’m fairly certain it’s only one.
Yet has always transmitted well below that.
The laughing stock of commercial radio from the same law breakers who brought you a commercial service on a HPON yet condoned by ACMA whilst others threatened with large fines.
All depends on who you are when you pick up the phone to ACMA.

I use to take the train a lot from Melbourne to Swan Hill & I could pick up 102.5 very well between Pyramid & Kerang.

Is see Edge 1021 and 1025 have both dropped there local drive shifts in place of Carrie and Tommy. Disappointing
