###Hack Live - The War on Young People

Thursday 23 June at 9:30pm

LIVE SPECIAL

In a world where house prices are out of control, jobs are less secure and university debt is exploding, is it any wonder young people are starting to feel ripped off?

In this episode of Hack Live Tom Tilley gathers a panel of Australians, young and old, and asks ‘is there a war on young people’?

The boomers had cheap houses and free degrees, and now as they enter their twilight years they either won’t get off the career ladder or they’re living it up. But what about their kids? For most of them, the great Australian dream has become a great Australian nightmare. Young people today are too busy paying off their education let along paying off a home, and to pay off anything at all they need a steady job and a chance of success.

This wasn’t what they were promised. Nine days out from the election this program will hear from young Australians feeling left behind, young entrepreneurs bucking the trend, the oldies who think this generation has it too easy, and the politicians who have the power to start serious change. Is there really a ‘war on young people’ or is it a mindset of the over entitled? And can the ‘battle lines’ be redrawn? It’s time to find out.

ABC2 has amended the Tuesday June 7 screening schedule, as we’ll be screening the Muhammad Ali classic documentary – When We Were Kings.

7.30pm: Doctor Who
8.20pm: Good Game
8.50pm: When We Were Kings

Screening at 8.50pm, Tuesday, June 7 on ABC2, this Academy Award®-winning documentary of the 1974 heavyweight bout between reigning champion George Foreman and underdog challenger Muhammad Ali is absolutely thrilling.

Amazing footage of the boxers captured in the waiting weeks before the fight not only offers an intimate portrait of a boxer’s preparation, but also depicts the interesting dynamic of African-Americans connecting with the African people.

When We Were Kings, a 1996 film by Leon Gast and Taylor Hackford, features Muhammad Ali, Mobutu Seko, Spike Lee, James Brown, Don King, Leon Cast, David Sonenberg, Taylor Hackford, Leon Gast, George Foreman and B.B. King.

Any of the guides showing a return of the tv show Episodes which has just disappeared ? I hope it comes back after The Chaser Election specials finish.

###Kazoops

From 1 August at 8am and 5.50pm

ORIGINAL AUSTRALIAN ANIMATION SERIES KAZOOPS COMES TO ABC KIDS THIS AUGUST

Wednesday, June 29, 2016 — Vibrant original animation series Kazoops is sure to brighten up the winter days when it debuts on ABC KIDS on Monday, 1 August. The series will air daily on ABC KIDS (TV and ABC iview) at 8am and 5.50pm from Monday to Saturday, and is a coproduction between ABC, Netflix and CBeebies, produced by Australia’s award winning animators Cheeky Little Media.

Aimed at 3-5 year old viewers, Kazoops follows the adventures of Monty, an inquisitive six-year-old with a vivid imagination, and Jimmy Jones, his loyal best friend. In each episode Monty confronts a preconception about the world in which he lives, usually imposed by grownups, and sets out to challenge it by embarking on a wild imaginary adventure with Jimmy Jones that offers them a fresh perspective.

Each adventure is set to unique songs written and recorded by Australian musician Scott Langley. The music covers a rich variety of styles and incorporates everything from guitars and ukuleles to drums, glockenspiels, retro synths, strings and vocals.

Kazoops demonstrates the value of critical thinking and creative play, encouraging preschoolers to learn valuable lessons from Monty and Jimmy Jones’ adventures and to cherish friendships and the value of childhood wonder and creative thinking.

A friend is on an ABC viewer panel, and they were asked their opinion of a proposal to change ABC2 to an edgy youth channel named ON.

Could ABC potentially partner with a US network like SBS has done or perhaps with a UK channel ?

This prospect sounds awful.

In a related proposal ABC3 may be rebranded as OFF (since it has no programming for a lot of the night!)

Would be interesting to see some of the ads and promos aired. There’s been a few times where the switchover between ABC Kids and ABC2 has occurred and you go straight from the Giggle and Hoot goodnight to an ABC2 promo and then promos for the sex shows coming up on ABC2 and then into Spicks and Specks… quite a contrast all of a sudden after all kids stuff all day! Let’s hope some parents aren’t a bit slow on the remote.
