Australia is blessed with some of the world’s weirdest competitions. Every town you visit has a race or toss or bake-off that couldn’t exist anywhere else.
We love a competition, but which competition is Australia’s BEST competition?
This is the question triple j’s Lewis Hobba and Michael Hing set out to answer in Australia’s Best Competition Competition which premieres on ABC TV Plus and ABC iview, Thursday October 27 at 8.30pm.
The journey takes the duo to every corner of the country, taking part in this country’s weirdest, wildest, and sometimes oiliest competitions. From Australian classics like wood chopping and the Archibald Prize, to the speed of street racing, the Turkish oil wrestling and more!
Their high-octane exploits result in a broken limb, a lot of semi-nude embarrassment and at least one legitimate victory.
“For us, entering these competitions resulted in one broken leg and a lot of broken dreams. This show truly highlights the best of Australia and the worst of our hand-eye coordination”, said Hobba and Hing. “We hope this inspires people to go to new places and try new things, but if not, we hope everyone enjoys watching grown men fall over and hurt themselves.”
In this one-hour TV special, Hobba and Hing score each competition they enter using their own patented rating system and present their findings to a live studio audience as well as representatives from each competition.

Doc Martin Season 10 – the final series ever

After having his career scrutinised by the General Medical Council because of his blood phobia, Martin makes efforts to overcome his fear and begins to question whether he made the right decision about resigning.
Martin Clunes returns to Cornwall to play the nation’s favourite grumpy medic for the last time in the Australian Premiere of the final series of the hugely successful ITV drama Doc Martin.
He stars as Dr. Martin Ellingham, the GP with a brusque bedside manner and a phobia of blood, in eight new episodes of the popular drama produced by Buffalo Pictures, and set in the idyllic hamlet of Portwenn in Cornwall.
This final series sees the Doc making efforts to overcome his phobia, and beginning to question whether he made the right decision about resigning. He and Louisa have also welcomed a baby daughter, Mary Elizabeth, a sister for four-year-old James Henry. With Louisa pursuing her new career as a child counsellor in his old surgery, the Doc is left literally holding the baby, and indulging his hobby of repairing clocks on the kitchen table. But does he really want his old job back?

When a prominent lawyer, Alex Galbraith, is shot dead in broad daylight, Jimmy Perez is called in to investigate.
Galbraith was known across the Isles and notorious for securing the compassionate release from prison of Donna Killick, the murderer of Lizzie Kilmuir. But is this the reason for the murder, or could the real target have been his wife, Eve, who is running as an independent candidate in the upcoming Westminster by-election on a divisive platform?The team finds plenty of enemies among Galbraith’s recent cases. There’s Lynda Morton. Galbraith helped her husband win custody of their two sons.
Logan Creggan, a veteran accused of war crimes during his tours of Iraq, is another potential suspect. Galbraith refused to defend him. Could Eve’s campaign pledge to restart the government’s war crimes investigations have reopened old wounds? Creggan’s son, Fraser, with his macabre fascination with serial killers, also arouses suspicion.
But then the report of a stolen drone leads the team to Eamon Gauldie, a diver servicing an oil pipeline at the bottom of the North Sea. Believing he may have filmed the Galbraith crime scene, Perez is desperate to speak to him.

Since the dawn of porn, the erotica industry has been dominated by men and powerful corporations.
Now, just like food delivery and transportation, that model’s being tipped on its head. The porn industry is being democratised thanks to online platforms like Only Fans, where anyone – overwhelmingly women – can make money from producing and sharing their own erotic material.With the rise of unemployment during the pandemic, it’s no wonder that thousands of prospective content creators have signed up. In the first four months of 2020, some 200,000 Australians joined – more than 5,000 of them as content creators.
However, the promise of big fast money only proves true for a small minority. Most make very little, while Only Fans profits have soared. Many content creators share compromising material, earn very little and then regret losing control over their images.
Siobhan goes behind the scenes and into the bedrooms of young women to ask is this empowerment or more exploitation? What are the risks and dangers involved? Could their reputations, and future job prospects suffer? Or will this help to abolish the stigma around sex work? And do creators face heightened risk of trolling and real-life stalking?

Noel Pearson’s first Boyer Lecture: Who we were and who we can be
The first of Noel Pearson’s highly anticipated Boyer Lecture series will be shown on Thursday 27 October at 9.30pm on ABC TV and ABC iview.
In Who we were and who we can be Pearson will explore the proposal to amend the Constitution to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Peoples of Australia through a Voice to Parliament.
Pearson says: “In this lecture I will refer to three periods: the past, the present and the prospective future.
Pearson’s lecture series will look at where we are today and what lies ahead for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and all Australians. It will also reflect on where we have come since W.E.H. Stanner’s 1968 Boyer Lectures After the Dreaming.
The series will be broadcast on ABC RN on Sundays in November and available on demand via ABC listen.

This two-part documentary is the much-anticipated story of one of Australia’s most gifted and controversial athletes, and how a social media post landed him at the heart of our culture wars, derailing careers in the process.
For the first time Israel Folau’s story is examined in all its multi-layered complexity, featuring crucial Pasifika voices and exploring the nexus between freedom of religion and speech, protection from discrimination for the LGBTQI community, and how far the workplace can reasonably go to balance the two.
PART 1 traces Israel Folau’s upbringing in the devout Christian traditions of the Pasifika community, whose other ‘religion’ is rugby. It follows his meteoric and record setting rise through three football codes, culminating in 73 appearances for the Wallabies.
While initially grappling with the pitfalls of fame and fortune, when his father Eni experiences a major health scare, Folau re-evaluates his choices, setting him on a path that will alter the course of his career and life forever.
