ABC News Presenters and Reporters

Very impressed with this package, it’s so fresh and modern. Would of liked to see a unified theme but I like this remixed one too. They just need new backgrounds and minor modifications to the set and if will be :ok_hand:t3:

@Bluejays1985 check this post

There has been quite a lot of negative comments on the graphics package on there Facebook page the post with the new logo.

The last relaunch attracted similar comments. People don’t like change, but they get used to it.

OK I’m saying it out here. I think the new look for ABC News is absolutely great, and granted it’s simple, but I like the clean graphics and I think everything works out very well. Throw things at me now :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:.

Compared to Seven and Nine, ABC did everything at once, which for a start is great. I think in terms of graphics, ABC is the winner, followed by Seven, Nine and Ten respectively. The only criticisms is that pig-ugly clock used on News Breakfast this morning and the hideously small ticker. Also, it was a shame that the 1986-2005 didn’t make a comeback (surely a remixed version of that and the current theme wouldn’t sound too bad?).

Overall, I think the ABC is trying to create a simple and a pretty look, and I think they’ve nailed it.

It’ll be quite interesting to see how @SydneyCityTV thinks of this relaunch…

I completely Agree.

I tend to agree too. Simplicity what makes the look run best.

I think some background changes would go a long way…

Who approved that clock font. It looks like someone stretched the text font. Colour isn’t much better. Ticker looks weird aswell. I think the breaking one needs to be a darker red because with the size, it unreadable.

It’s just doesn’t look polished imo and for some reason the lower thirds remind me of Viceland and CNN of a decade ago when they went with the simple look. The bumpers do look good though.

Edit: I think around the clock and the ticker, they ran out of space on the bottom. Maybe move the supers higher a little bit and make the font bigger and it won’t look so squashed.

I do hope the ticker and the clock are changed.

I really love the logo. To @JBar 's comment on the size, I think it looks neatest when it’s all squared off.

Overall, the graphics are really simple but I think that works to their advantage. Seven, Nine and especially Ten are sticking with 3D design which is aging horribly and looks brash and sensationalist. The ABC instead looks organised and more authoritative.

I just love what they’ve done with the theme. The opener is a nice evolution of the previous ABC News opener, except instead of sliding left to right, everything slides upward and backward giving a nice ‘progression’ and ‘updating’ effect. I presume the 7pm bulletins will simply be an update of the previous openers along the same lines.

edit: one other little thing I love: the date and day being subtly injected into the openers.

From what I’ve seen so far of the ABC News relaunch…we are now looking at the most polished and professional On-Air Presentation of any news service on Australian TV. Seven, Nine and Ten: This is how you relaunch a news service in 2017!

It’ll be interesting to see how the 7pm bulletins are like tonight, hopefully there’ll still be a strong local/state flavour like there was with the previous look.

It’s SBS’s turn now. Haven’t had a relaunch since 2014

John Clarke was included in the images scrolling through the opener during the headlines at midday. So the opener is dynamic and changes according to the date and the top stories. Very cool.

So what happened to the yellow?

It seems that yellow is being used for the Corporate side of things, but there is some usage of it in fonts such as the clock.

Reminds me of what BBC News did in 2006/07 where the main headline appeared in the titles (seen from 1:19 in the following video):
