So Victoria and some other states haven’t had a local sports presenter for more like 20 years as the Wilkins experiment only lasted a few years. Wow.
Christine Ahern, who was one of the sports presenters on the Victorian bulletin, was axed as the result of the new arrangement. She joined 9News Melbourne before becoming a reporter on Today a few years later, and has been there ever since.
Yes, she was the weekend presenter at the time. Basically the weekday sports presenters were all moved to weekends and the weekends presenters got the axe.
But eventually the weekend roles went to.
Who is reading the news on ABC Sydney tonight?
Edit: ever mind it’s Amy Greenbank.
I didn’t realise Carrie Ann had a twin sister. I thought she may have defected from 10 news + before a possible axing.
Adelaide also went on strike over it. This was the start of the slow and steady march away from commitment to local news by ABC tv.
Although. I think there was a brief time in the early 90s that they experimented with a national bulletin on weekends. But quickly reverted back to local editions after a backlash with viewers . @TelevisionAU might be able to confirm?
no, sorry I don’t have any recall of that. My memory might be fading.
Not sure if they went national on weekends, however, there were a number of times where they did a national bulletin during the early 90s due to industrial action (usually read by one of the state news editors)
I wonder if this was from when the sport-related strikes happened…
Sports strikes were 2004, that one I think was connected to a pay deal.
Of course John Lyons knew Trump wouldn’t answer his questions but did know it would blow up, clever promotion that went international.
What’s this in reference to?
John asked Trump questions about his apparently dodgy business dealings and Trump blew up, it’s pretty much every where should be on 730 I think.
Friday 19/9
Joe O’Brien presenting mornings for the second Friday in a row
He mentioned later on it’s for a 4 corners program going into trumps wealth since he has been in office this year.
trump no doubt will have another meltdown when he finds out it’s a government funded media outlet
And left wing, surely sky are going nuts.
The ABC is not left wing.
The ABC has always had a very strategic & single minded point of view.
They are strongly opposed to any government that cuts its budget & any organisation that calls for it to be cut.
The issue with the broadcaster in recent times is some staff have an agenda who simply can’t keep it to themselves. Brennan did this throughout the Voice campaign. You could call it rogue presenters, but that’s up to Management to keep them in line, I assume they have a code of conduct. The issue is as soon as one goes off script it’s super hard to get back as you have Murdoch press and papers calling you out non stop.
Dutton was going to cut it, was well known in the industry. That was pure spite though, or punishment towards them.
