Tonight’s Media Watch has a report on ABC defence correspondent Andrew Greene, who since February last year has filed repeated updates on the Australian Navy’s $10 billion warship program. Foreign Press Centre Japan paid for Greene’s travel and helped arrange access to some of the country’s top defence officials. The assistance of FPCJ was disclosed at the end of his radio and TV reports.
The program alleged that Greene travelled to Germany last week with flights and accommodation paid by German weapons company ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, but had not disclosed the trip to his ABC bosses. The ABC is now investigating the allegations.
