Yeah but it’s not like Parramatta is some sort of major city that is in its own league like Syd/Mel/Brisbane etc. it’s not like anyone will fly to Australia and say ‘Gee I’m going to visit that glorious major city with loads of tourist attractions called Parramatta’.

I’m fairly sure even people from Paramatta think they live in Sydney, not that they live next to Sydney.

So this discussion is about the window labels on the cap below.

Seems that they are just labelling the studios for differentiation. Seems similar to when Brisbane bulletins will label a window as Mount Coot-Tha and the other another a suburb in Brisbane or Gold Coast Bulletins would have Cavill Ave for one window and Surfers Paradise for the other.

How bizarre they feel the need to do this. Anyone outside of Sydney couldn’t give a crap which studio they are in.
“Oh I better watch it cause it’s from Paramatta”

Which is fine for a local bulletin.
For a National bulletin/channel, using local suburbs rather than the city isn’t appropriate, and it just shows how Sydney centric the ABC is.
This instance shouldn’t have even had names, just two boxes from studio to studio.

I think this is being overanalyzed a bit here tbh. All national shows are somewhat Sydney/Melbourne etc centric, this is nothing new.

I doubt there was much thought put into this by production, the person responsible for the location on the two way box would’ve just included the studio location probably without thinking about it too much.

Is it great? Mhhhm not really, but in the scheme of things it’s not that bad.

That’s the issue! It’s not being overanalyzed, it’s blatantly on show.

Again, that’s the issue. Sydney people have this idea that everyone knows Sydney. It’s like when Triple J presenters address callers from Sydney by their suburb, but if you’re from Adelaide you’re just from Adelaide.

But this is not unique to the ABC, all shows do it - not just on TV. But if it’s such an issue, somebody write to the ABC and tell them.

I get the criticism to a degree, and fair to call it out but I still maintain that this in particular is being overanalyzed for what it is.

I agree - this debate has been going on for about 2-3 days now - I think we are starting to get to a point where we are probably going to end up going in circles.

When does Geelong, Gold Coast and Fremantle get their own studios for national based programming?

What a waste of tax payers money. You wouldn’t even know Melbourne is larger in Significant Urban Population if you worked at the ABC.

Personally, I think it’s nicer than just having the presenter side labelled as just “Studio”.

It’s not the end of the world if they do or don’t, but it’s a nice thing to have.

NEWS WATCHERS OUTRAGED AT CENTRALISATION BIAS OF NEWS BULLETINS ON ABC

It would be good for the town as there is currently no news studio in the Geelong area, plus I’m sure they would probably be able to fit in some relevant local news.

They need to make the move to the Gold Coast. It is our Hollywood and they should have a presence on the Gold Coast, and not in Brisbane.

How about Mandurah instead?

Right so you think they should have no presence in the state capital? Odd take really.

Geelong is Victoria’s second largest city and doesn’t even have its own ABC Radio station.

They tried to steal 94.7 a decade or so ago and the resistance put them off.

Abrupt end to tonight’s Victorian bulletin. Faults with weather graphics (and I think teleprompter as well) meant Ishkandar Razak was unable to complete the weather forecast for Melbourne before the scheduled ad break came up at 7.30pm. Ishkandar struggled to ad lib when the graphics slowed.

It was a mess. Why does the VIC bulletin get the timing of the weather so wrong so often? You frequently get less than five seconds at the end to take in the seven day forecast, no matter who is presenting, even Adam when he turns up.

I think it’s an intentional thing - most, if not, all the other states on weeknights usually manage to leave just enough time for a quick “That’s all from the newsroom for now, here’s 7.30 with Sarah Ferguson”
