Interesting . Giving ITV, European news vibes
News Channel should be from here all day!
Very Sexy. Very Simple. Love it.
Looks great but the best thing they could do right now is make this channel HD, it’s 2025 for gods sake.
Please, the channel is terrible in SD
Having the two boxes labelled as Paramatta and Ultimo is ridiculous, again showing ABC’s Sydney focus. Anywhere else it’d just be ‘Melbourne’ or ‘Adelaide’ or whatever… you’ll never see the news channel put ‘O’Connor’ or ‘Hamersley’ as the locations for a cross.
Also, finance should be from the new studio. It’s either a NC block from parramatta or it’s not.
Agree. Sydney / Parramatta would make more sense.
Parramatta is a pretty big city in it’s own right now.
Parramatta is part of Sydney.
Yes I know, but it’s also a major city in its own right - and quite an important business centre of influence in NSW.
If there is any city within a city in Australia that has a significant influence it’s Parramatta.
For Sydneysiders, or one or two of us living overseas perhaps, but ask anyone in Brisbane, Adelade or Melbourne and they’ll say “huh?” The ABC needs to think of its entire audience - not just those living between the new Parramatta studio and the Blue Mountains.
Large pockets of national population nationwide have heard of Freemantle, Logan City and Dandenong.
And Beverly Hills. Santa Monica, etc
All cities within cities that are quite well known
Parramatta is a CBD within the bounds of Sydney, not technically a city in its own right.
Not sure where you’re getting that from. Technically Parramatta is indeed a city in its own right.
Parramatta is a suburb and major commercial centre in Greater Western Sydney. Parramatta is located approximately 24 kilometres (15 mi) west of the Sydney CBD, on the banks of the Parramatta River . It is commonly regarded as the secondary central business district of metropolitan Sydney.
Well, “technically” Parramatta is a suburb of Sydney. The local council can call itself whatever it wants so they say City of Parramatta.
Back in the 80s/90s we went through this trend of renaming every local council as a city. We had City of Hurstville, City of Rockdale, City of Kogarah, City of Burwood, City of Waverley etc. Then after mergers and changes, the trend has mostly gone the other way. Bayside Council, Georgers River Council, Burwood Council, Waverley Council.
But really, the City of Parramatta is just the name of the local council and it’s a suburb of Sydney like any other hub: North Sydney, Chatswood, Bondi Junction, Liverpool, Hurstville, Blacktown, Campbelltown, Hornsby.
Parramatta was declared a city in 1938 - almost a century ago.
It has a Lord Mayor- one of only 10 cities in Australia to do so.
It’s not just calling itself a city, it factually and by definition a city and proclaimed as one.
New South Wales, has two types of “city”: cities that are acknowledged on the register of the Geographical Names Board of New South Wales,[4] and local government areas that have been proclaimed as cities but are not acknowledged on the Geographical Names Register.
Cities acknowledged on the NSW Geographical Names Register
Uuuuugh. We know. But the thing above doesn’t make it a seperate city to Sydney or within city in the way you are trying to argue.
