From Saturday 16 June at 8.15pm

Fast-tracked from the UK

Prime Minister Pitt (Edward Bennett) calls an election and uncertainty grips the country. While Ross (Aidan Turner) watches Cornwall suffer under the power of Truro’s MP, George Warleggan (Jack Farthing), Demelza’s (Eleanor Tomlinson) infidelity leaves her torn between her husband and a lovesick Hugh (Josh Whitehouse), who is set to rival George in the upcoming election.

The Enyses contemplate having a child and Elizabeth (Heida Reed) seeks the same to secure her marriage. Meanwhile, Morwenna (Ellise Chappell) uses Osborne’s (Christian Brassington) affair with her sister Rowella (Esme Coy) to keep the reverend’s advances at bay, and Demelza seeks to reconcile rival local Lords of Falmouth (James Wilby) and Basset (John Hopkins).

A corn riot erupts in Truro, and Zacky’s (Tristan Sturrock) son Jago (Jack Riddiford) leads the charge. Sam Carne (Tom York) and Drake Carne (Harry Richardson) attempt to dissuade him but arrive too late, and a merchant is killed in the fighting. Tom Harry (Turlough Convery) tells George that the Carnes and Jago murdered the man.

Marcella

image

From Friday 27 July at 9:15pm

Marcella is a new multi-strand crime drama from internationally renowned screenwriter and novelist Hans Rosenfeldt (The Bridge). Following his global success with The Bridge, Marcella captures Rosenfeldt’s genius in creating truly compelling female characters. Set in contemporary London and starring Anna Friel, Marcella centres on the psychological struggles of a Metropolitan police officer at crisis point in her personal life, driven by rejection and intuition.

Marcella (Anna Friel), now in her late 30s, gave up her fast-tracked role as a detective at the Metropolitan Police’s Murder Squad to marry and devote her life to starting a family. After 12 years, and the abrupt end of her marriage to the man she thought was the love of her life, and isolated from her children at boarding school, Marcella returns to work - with her sense of self shattered.

She’s immediately assigned to an old case she first worked on in 2005. A spate of recent killings all carry the same hallmarks as those unsolved murders committed over a decade ago. Has the killer re-appeared, or is this a copycat murderer? How will Marcella cope with returning to duty when her own temperament is so fragile and vulnerable? Will throwing herself into her work provide the answers she’s seeking or lead her dangerously into territory she must avoid at all costs?

Told in Rosenfeldt’s unflinchingly clear Nordic style, the series leads the audience through an unpredictable narrative maze full of hooks and action, with suspicion falling on nearly every character right up until its final moments.

Also stars Australian actor Maeve Dermody.

Seems a strange title for the ABC, I’m surprised it wasn’t picked by one of the commercials or a streaming service locally.

Grand Designs Australia - Season 2

image

From Thursday 2 August at 8:00pm

The second season of Grand Designs Australia presented by Peter Maddison, begins with the design and construction of a 1960s-inspired home in the beachside suburb of Brighton, Melbourne.

The Australian is reporting that the ABC is pursuing a new series of Hypotheticals to be hosted by Charlie Pickering.

Wow, this must’ve really hurt the ABC to organise different schedules for many nights running instead of the usual serve the one program to everyone and too bad approach they’ve taken since the 90’s.

There is a background to the watermark tonight on ch2.

As posted here last night
