7plus soars in July: up 80%, takes the #1 spot

Glasgow 2026, Farmer Wants A Wife, 7NEWS shine

The Seven Network’s 7plus captured the title of Australia’s most-watched commercial free-to-air streaming service in July, building its lead over rivals thanks to stellar numbers from the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, Farmer Wants A Wife, Home and Away, 7NEWS, Sunrise and more.

A 49% share of commercial BVOD viewing made 7plus the clear winner in July. It was #1 in both live streaming with a 49.5% share and in VOD (48.2%).

7plus’ all-people audience grew 80.3% last month, again outpacing its commercial free-to-air rivals. In live streaming alone, the 7plus audience was up 105%.

The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games were the standout performer in July, drawing an average audience of 62,000 on 7plus, up 528% on the 2022 Games in Birmingham, and reaching 3.3 million people across the Games so far. Exclusive content on 7plus was a hit with sport fans, with the Australia v England netball pop-up on 26 July averaging 185,000 viewers, and the Australia v Tonga netball pop-up on 25 July drawing 92,000 viewers.

Farmer Wants A Wife was also a standout hit during July, jumping 79% year-on-year.

The July result means 7plus has been Australia’s most-watched commercial BVOD service for eight of the past 12 months.

It was also the fastest growing commercial free-to-air streaming across the first seven months of 2026, growing its audience 53.5% in the year to date compared to the same period in 2025. Live viewing was up 75.5% and VOD viewing increased 23.6%.

Seven’s Director of 7plus Content and Strategy, Andrew Green, said: “July was the biggest month in 7plus history and another clear demonstration of how Australians are embracing free streaming across live sport, news and entertainment.

“The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games attracted huge audiences, while Farmer Wants A Wife, Home and Away, 7NEWS and Sunrise all delivered outstanding results. More Australians are choosing to stream 7plus than any other commercial free-to-air service because we’re bringing together the live moments audiences don’t want to miss, alongside Australia’s favourite on demand content.

“The momentum will continue this month with an outstanding content slate, including the return of The Voice and Home and Away. Special events including TV’s night of nights, the TV WEEK** Logie Awards**, and the AFL Legends Match are exclusive to Seven, while the debut of the AFL Wildcard Round will deliver two extra AFL Finals games for fans. And summer starts early with Australia’s home Test series against Bangladesh,” he said.

Sport, news and entertainment content have underpinned 7plus’ growth in 2026. Highlights include (full season or season-to-date):

  • Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games: 7plus audience up 528% (on Birmingham 2022)
  • AFL Premiership Season: 7plus audience up 128%
  • 7NEWS: 7plus audience up 94%
  • Home and Away: 7plus audience up 84%
  • Farmer Wants A Wife: 7plus audience up 79%
  • The Chase Australia: 7plus audience up 79%
  • The Front Bar: 7plus audience up 78%
  • Australian Idol: 7plus audience up 74%
  • The 1% Club: 7plus audience up 57%
  • Sunrise: 7plus audience up 53%
  • The Morning Show: 7plus audience up 53%
  • 7NEWS Spotlight: 7plus audience up 51%

Looks like Medium (which has been on the service the past year and a former Network Ten 2000s staple) is leaving 7Plus tomorrow.

I do think it’s a bit annoying when an entire show vanishes, rather than a particular season. The former usually happens if an entire back-catalogue series drops on vod all at once, but the latter if seasons drop gradually/different dates (like more premium franchises such as L&O) or newer and first run series.

That is why people are still resorting to other means to obtain the content. Which if I have a monthly subscription to say Netflix and I particularly like a particular show I am going to download said show and keep it in my private library incase the above happens. In my opinion this is perfectly OK but obviously against the ToS. But with DVDs Blurays increasingly being unavailable what other choice do we have? We own nothing when it’s in the cloud only.

Definitely a local feed now too - just had an ad for Intersport with stores listed as Burnie, Kingston and Launceston. Then there was a Sleepy’s ad with Tasmanian stores and now the good old Tasmanian Cripps Ambassador is back! Hello old slightly annoying friend!

Saw local ads on 7mate as well. Assuming 7two will be the same but 7flix and 7bravo we’ve never had on FTA here unless that’s suddenly changed also.

7plus’ mega August: #1 in BVOD, up 63%

AFL, Home and Away, The Rookie, The Voice and more lead the charge

The AFL Premiership Season, Home and Away, Sunrise, The Voice, the TV WEEK** Logie Awards**, the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games and other leading content saw the Seven Network’s 7plus take the crown as the #1 commercial free-to-air streaming service in August, the fifth month in a row it won the top spot.

7plus captured a 48.6% share of commercial BVOD viewing in August, up from 42.2% in August last year. It was #1 in both live streaming with a 49.8% share and in VOD (46.1%).

After a record-breaking result in July, August saw 7plus achieve its second biggest monthly audience ever. Its all-people audience grew 63% last month, outpacing its commercial free-to-air rivals. In live streaming alone, the 7plus audience was up 91%.

The growth in August was driven, in part, by some of Seven’s key “always on” programs including The Chase Australia, which saw its year-on-year audience on 7plus grow 82% during the month, 7NEWS (up 81%), Home and Away (up 77%), The Front Bar (up 75%), The Morning Show (up 63%) and Sunrise (up 60%).

The new season of The Voice started in August and is posting its biggest ever numbers on 7plus with an average audience of 321,000, up 48% year-on-year.

The Rookie was the third most watched on 7plus last month behind Home and Away and The Voice with an average audience of 311,000.

The induction of A Country Practice into the TV WEEK** Logie Awards** Hall of Fame on 16 August triggered a sharp jump in viewing of the iconic Seven show on 7plus. Viewing jumped 63% year-on-year, with 27 million minutes watched in just two weeks.

The August numbers mean 7plus has been Australia’s most-watched commercial BVOD service for nine of the past 12 months.

It was also the fastest growing commercial free-to-air streaming across the first eight months of 2026, growing its year-to-date audience 55% compared to the same period in 2025. Live viewing was up 78% and VOD viewing rose 24%.

Seven’s Director of 7plus Content and Strategy, Andrew Green, said: “August was another huge month for 7plus, with more than four billion minutes – or 70 million hours – streamed, making it our second biggest month ever and our fifth consecutive month as Australia’s most-watched commercial free-to-air streaming service.

“What’s particularly pleasing is the consistency of the performance. 7plus was number one in both live streaming and on demand, with Australians continuing to turn to 7plus for the biggest live moments alongside their favourite entertainment.

“September will take that to another level. The AFL Final Series, Brownlow Medal and AFL Grand Final headline a massive month of live sport, alongside the historic NFL Melbourne game, while My Kitchen Rules launches, The Voice reaches its grand finale and Home and Away continues with a huge month of new episodes,” he said.

“More than 1.2 million Australians watched 7plus every day in August, another sign of the scale 7plus has reached. And we’re only getting started.”

Sport, news and entertainment content have underpinned 7plus’ growth in 2026. Highlights include (full season or season-to-date):
