Because it sounds good. Better than peacock, that’s for sure.

Hardly a beloved brand.

Am sure they could come up with something new.

I don’t think the SWM company accounts are good enough to be able to afford to start yet another paid streaming service in Australia that already seems to be overserviced. The current 7Plus doesn’t have enough content for anything much to be worth paying for and buying up overseas content would be expensive - would end up being in a bidding war with Stan. Commissioning more Australian content would also be expensive and have a long lead time.

What 7 should do is try and acquire Binge off DAZN.

Well there were rumours last year that DAZN was kicking the tyres on 7, but never came to anything.

They should consider this if they have enough money which they don’t really have. Maybe they are just happy with the money they are getting from 7plus as it is? We definitely don’t need another paid streaming service.

I would pay for 1080 for shows and news, even if that was the only perk.

It annoys me they only have things in 720. Everything should be 1080 anyway but if a monthly charge is needed to make that available then sign me up.

Two points:

  1. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, one of the biggest mistakes Seven has made is turning down the opportunity to partner with Nine for Stan in favour of Pesto when Foxtel’s mindset towards streaming was less than halfhearted.
  2. You don’t necessarily have to spend big to launch a paid streaming service. For example, Seven could mirror the Channel 4 model of offering a subscription that provides ad-free viewing and early access to shows (i.e., the ‘7Plus First’ shows).

I believe there are complications to this that their rights for these shows usually allow BVOD but are not subscription/SVOD rights and putting them behind a paywall is actually in breach of rights. Not an insurmountable problem but it’s a complication.

It’s probably a complication for some programs. Think Hulu gets around it for those programs by either front-loading the ads by airing them before the episode begins or the ads only being promos for other shows on the platform.

New British drama Finders Keepers unearths the troubles striking gold

From the multi-award-winning creator of hit series Porters and The Mallorca Files, comes trilling new British drama series Finders Keepers, with all episodes streaming exclusively on 7plus from 6.00pm Sunday, 7 September.

With a star studded cast led by Neil Morrissey (Line of Duty, Bob the Builder, Men Behaving Badly), James Buckley (The Inbetweeners, Rock & Chips) and Fay Ripley (Cold Feet), Finders Keepers sees a small town engineer and his soon-to-be son-in-law faced with the moral dilemma of their lives when they uncover a hoard of buried Saxon treasure worth millions. Will they declare it legally, or secretly sell it and set themselves up for life?

While straight-laced Martin (Morrissey) wrestles with the weight of their discovery, fast-talking Ashley (Buckley) is determined to cash in the treasure on the black market.

Once Martin reluctantly agrees, their scheme quickly attracts the attention of local hardman Rocky, as well as the Greater London Police.

As pressure mounts, Martin’s behaviour begins to unravel, just as his wife Anne begins to grow close to a man outside their relationship. Will greed cost Martin his marriage as well as his freedom?

Finders Keepers is created by Seven Sea Films, directed by Philip John (Outlander, Good Karma Hospital, Iron Fist) and written and Executive Produced by Dan Sefton (Good Karma Hospital, The Mallorca Files, Trust Me).

Finders Keepers Stream 6.00pm Sunday, 7 September exclusively on 7plus

7Plus now has a placeholder for NCIS and interesting they’re saying it’ll be “exclusive”.

I’m guessing the seasons they have rights to, for now, at least (S1-5). Wonder if they’ll drop 1 or all 5 seasons and if the exclusive if just FTA or across all Pay TV and SVOD as well?

10Bold will be showing S18E1 at the same time 7Flix is showing S1E1.

maybe 7+ exclusive because 10play only has S13 to S17

Prime Video have S1-10, Binge and Foxtel also have several seasons.

It’ll also be interesting to see if 7flix expand NCIS to more nights if not nightly, as well as promoting it.

And if 10 Bold will continue them or if they’ll end up having many rights at all.

I think they probably mean it’s exclusive for a free streaming service (at least those seasons)

I just updated the 7+ app, it looks like the Cooking and Culture and Better Homes and Gardens channels are gone.

Although they repeated alot of the same episodes, they were the 2 channels I usually put on during the day when I’m doing housework. I hope they bring another form of lifestyle channel back.
