MediaWeek article: Will Sam Pang host the Logies this year?
Who would we like to see hosting in an ideal world?
IMO Carrie Bickmore was the last genuine, solid pick and all-round well received Gold winner, a decade ago. Walked Alyâs was a significant moment that followed too.
But Samuel Johnson was the last winner I truly connected with, perhaps because it was the last time an actual actor/drama won it. Same with Asher Keddie.
Ever since Karl Stefanovic in 2011 itâs felt a bit off, Scott Cam, Hamish Blake (twice) and especially since Grant Denyer and these ridiculous campaigns including Tom Gleeson and Sonia Kruger. Though I thought Larry Emdur and Lynne McGrangerâs were acceptable and nice.
The golden era kind of ended in 2010 with Ray Meagher after that string of Kate Ritchie, Rove, Georgie Parker and Lisa McCune. Special shout out to John Woodâs long overdue and fitting win in 2006.
Seven have won a lot over the past 30 years, followed by Ten and I think surprisingly itâs actually Nine who trail (and it wouldnât be until Karl/Hamish/Scott in 2010s!)
I agree. I feel like itâs all glory since post COVID itâs been selected from names put forward by network publicists. Should go back to being nominated by the public to genuinely capture the most popular personality.
Needs to go back to allowing the public to nominate personalities for the awards
Having the publicity team choose 4 stars each for the Gold is way too short for my liking.
Whats the difference between stars campaigning for the Gold and the Publicity Team campaigning? Defeats the change, really.
Just wish we can choose the nominees again, rather than having them be chosen for us. Even of its for a few awards. The Gold, Most Popular Actor, Actress, Presenter and Drama Series.
Can still have an Outstanding Actor, Actress and Drama Series too.
We can compromise for some Program Awards being a mix of the two (Outstanding and Popular) for Lifestyle, Entertainment and Comedy.
Fully concur
Sam Pang confirmed to The Age that he would not be hosting the Logies this year.
Not surprised that Pang isnât returning as host. He was hinting on The Front Bar and on Sevenâs Intervention Show that would be the case. He had good overall as host over the last 3 years.
Also mentioned in the article is the date:
Pang said he was approached by Seven to host the 66th awards on Sunday, August 16, but âpolitely declinedâ.
I still donât get why it has to be on so late in the year. Just have the awards based on the previous calendar year like they had been doing for 60 odd years. This April 1 - March 31 time-frame for the nominated shows is just odd. Nominations would probably come out in July? Some 3 months after the March 31 deadline.
Interesting that apparently theyâre looking for a âyoung hostâ
If they have to choose 7 talent, Scott Tweedie and Rickie Lee could be a good option?
Yeah. I donât think the age should be the criteria for choosing the host. It has to be someone who can host, banter and be quick with the jokes.
Turns out Sam casually told Tom Gleisner and the audience during the filming of HYBPA yesterday that he would not host the Logies this year. The audio was included in tonightâs broadcast.
Samâs a busy man. Probably wanted the time off.
Sam tonight
Iâm not hosting. Not enough cocaine there for me.
I had three wonderful years. Sometimes you can hold on too long.
[To Tom] Youâre a great example of that.
No mate. It needs to be a comic.
What are the odds that Sonia Kruger and Dr Chris Brown will host the Red Carpet segment again? My odds are $1.01.
I would love to see Shaun Micallef return as host, but apparently Seven wants someone âyoungâ. Someone like Guy Montgomery could possibly work?
Tim and Mel would be good if Seven doesnât care about 10 talent.
I completely agree. However if theyâre looking for a âyoungâ host (as stated in this article : Sam Pang confirms he is out as Logies host. | TV Tonight) thereâs no one really amongst the Seven stable who fits the bill.
Tim and Mel would be excellent.
Mel Tracina would also be great. To attract the youth audience could combine her with Rob Irwin.
Actually, Mel and Tim (with speacial appearances by Mel) would be great as hosts. They have good chemistry. But canât see it happening. Seven doesnât like advertising talent from other networks.
