Ratings: AFL helps Seven score in Thursday ratings

The Seven network scored its best Thursday result of the 2016 survey thanks to a bumper audience for its AFL coverage.

With a split schedule across the country, Seven secured a 30.8% network share while Nine, without any NRL game or AFL Footy Show recorded its lowest Thursday share so far this survey with 24.7%. Ten was third with 21.8%, ABC had 16.9% and SBS 5.8%.

The AFL had 432,000 in Melbourne and Adelaide plus 122,000 on 7Mate in three markets. Earlier, Seven News (1,072,000 and 942,000) and Home and Away with 637,000 (four markets) also did well for the network. The Chase had 706,000 and 419,000 in the afternoon with Mighty Cruise Ships (276,000) and Car Crash TV (194,000) shown in three markets.

Meanwhile, Nine News (1,065,000 and 1,022,000), A Current Affair (813,000) and RBT (610,000) were in the night’s top ten. Hot Seat, earlier, had 554,000 with the NRL edition of The Footy Show on 250,000 and World’s Funniest Videos Top 10 Countdown on 234,000.

Ten’s MasterChef was the number one non-news program with 913,000 and together with Shark Tank that followed (592,000) also performed well with younger audiences. Earlier, The Project (592,000 and 472,000), Family Feud (562,000) and Ten Eyewitness News (516,000) made the top twenty list while later, Law and Order SVU had 310,000.

ABC News (823,000) and 7.30 were ABC’s best performers while Kitchen Cabinet lifted this week to 535,000. Later, Rake averaged 570,000 with Cleverman on just 241,000 while Antiques Roadshow averaged 307,000.

Over on SBS, Sugar Free Farm (184,000) and Poh & Co. (167,000) were the top programs.

Today was the top rated breakfast show with 334,000 ahead of Sunrise on 310,000. In the afternoon news battle Nine’s 5pm bulletin had 343,000 after their afternoon news rated 213,000 while Seven scored 251,000 at 4pm and 269,000 at 4.30pm for their bulletin.
