Radio DX Equipment

Just received my new Tecsun AN-100 Antenna. It is an AM loop Antenna, I’ll try it out tonight and report on how it goes!

Edit: Works like a charm on the D-808! I can filter out the interference with it and tune into the desired frequency which then becomes quite clear.

I have been thinking of getting this, now I know it works well I probably will.

Same here, I would like to get back into AM DXing, it will help reduce the increasing amount of electrical interference we get on AM these days.

I ordered mine from a seller on Taobao for around $30. Quick shipping from China too.

I don’t bother with MW DX from home for this reason. At least you have plenty of public beaches and headlands around your area.

It would be interesting to do a ‘shoot out’ between the Tecsun loop and the standard 30 cm PK loop. My custom PK loop is much larger (70 cm).

And see if one runs rings around the other

The Radiwow R-108 has been released and costs $70 https://www.aliexpress.com/item/RADIWOW-R-108-Radio-Digital-Portable-Radio-FM-Stereo-LW-SW-MW-AIR-DSP-Receiver-with/32964227585.html?spm=2114.search0104.3.1.757e6aecHo8B1P&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_1_10065_10068_10130_10547_319_317_10548_10696_453_10084_454_10083_10618_10307_537_536_10131_10132_10902_10133_10059_10884_10887_321_322_10103,searchweb201603_6,ppcSwitch_0&algo_expid=4a05e70f-67a5-46d3-bead-b08d834e89de-0&algo_pvid=4a05e70f-67a5-46d3-bead-b08d834e89de&transAbTest=ae803_4

They need one of those shortened bit.ly URLs for that site!

Turns out they have now raised the price of the R-108 to $237.78… That seems a tad expensive to me.

Oh wow, yes, I agree.

I fail to see how it’s better than the Tecsun PL-3xx or Digitech AR-1780 or similar that are usually A$100 or less.

It’s now $70 on Ebay

THAT’S a MUCH better price.

Not sure why it’s been reduced by 70% already, hopefully it was just a pricing error.

I will have a look for some reviews and give consideration to buying one at $70 including postage.

I find it amazing how much better radio on the fm band is one pocket radio to another. I got a sony SRF-M97 it struggle to get hhh fm at my location, i also got a lg dab mobile it also struggles yet on my sangean DT-120 its near a local station quality, as it should be… I am about 6km away from the site.

Has anyone heard of the Corus brand of radios?

This DAB+/FM with RDS model is available through Tecsun for $100, looks to be an intriguing small portable unit with a large screen.

I recently purchased a new SDR - This one is called an MSI SDR (Seems to have an unofficial name of DolphinSDR according to some of my mates. It uses the SDRPlay RSP1 chipset and seems to be really good so far. It’s very tiny and came with a good quality micro USB cord and a good quality antenna! I’ll post more if anything else comes up.

Edit: Forgot to post the link to the item! https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32994675750.html

Nice. Haven’t seen a in depth tested review of this yet.
Would be interesting to see how it compares with the RSP1.

Look forward to seeing your results with MF/HF & VHF.

SDR’s are a lot of fun!

Well just a brief summary: AM Works perfectly, can receive every Melbourne station with Clarity. FM works well after an hour of bandwidth adjustments. As for anything else I am yet to discover but when I do I will post more.

Familiarisation with the software to get the best performance will take time, but is half the fun.
Also using appropriate outdoor antennas should yield much better results. You might find yourself needing to buy a several coax cable adaptor & jumper cables in the near future too for use with the SDR (re SMA antenna connector).

Id love to buy this, but its a bit out of my budget.

Looks expensive for a MP3 player/radio unless you are planning on taking a disguised radio into North Korea (illegal & ill advised I might add) on holiday sometime in the future.
