Presto

The only way Presto will have a chance of success is to totally rehaul the interface. It is by far and away has the worst UX of any streaming platform I’ve used. Content wise it isn’t bad but man, so glitchy.

###August

Presto has provided the following information regarding its streaming service for August.

Cheer on the Aussies with a marathon of home-grown titles, starting with the comedy-drama 800 Words streaming from August 1. Starring Erik Thomson and Melina Vidler, the much loved series follows a wid¬owed father who moves with his family to a remote New Zealand seaside town after quitting his job as an 800 word columnist for a Sydney newspaper.

August 8 marks 28 years since Australian rock royalty INXS released their iconic track Never Tear Us Apart. On the anniversary, Presto will stream INXS: Never Tear Us Apart, an authentic behind-the-scenes look beyond the music starring Samantha Jade, Georgina Haig, Mallory Jansen, Hugh Sheridan and Luke Arnold. The miniseries tells INXS’ extraordinary and uncensored story, with complete access to their ar¬chive of music and photography. Continuing the celebration of Aussie icons, legendary Australian filmmak¬er Jocelyn Moorhouse returns to the director’s chair to deliver the ultimate revenge story in The Dress¬maker streaming August 27. Based on the bestselling novel by Rosalie Hamm, the AACTA Award-winning comedy-drama stars Kate Winslet, Liam Hemsworth, Hugo Weaving and Judy Davis.

August also sees the arrival of complete series collections from HBO and Showtime. Dare to spend hours with everyone’s favourite serial killer, Dexter as every blood curdling episode streams on Presto from August 5. Continue the frightening frenzy with the complete first season of Fear The Walking Dead from August 24. A prequel to, and set in the same universe as, The Walking Dead, the gritty drama explores the onset of the undead apocalypse through the lens of a fractured family who must embrace their darker histories. Take a break from the scream stream and walk on the lighter side with seasons 1-3 of HBO’s Emmy® Award-winning crack-up comedy Veep starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus on August 3, and every episode of HBO’s The Newsroom starring Jeff Daniels, from August 19.

Seven West likely to withdraw from Presto joint venture

Seven West Media is expected to pull out of its digital streaming joint venture with Presto, which is under extreme pressure from US giant Netflix and the Nine Entertainment and Fairfax Media service, Stan.

Free-to-air television, print and digital group Seven and its JV partner Foxtel, owned by Telstra and The Australian’s publisher News Corporation, have agreed on a six-month budget rather than a full financial year agreement, as revealed by this newspaper.

The budget does not exceed a previously agreed funding commitment and sources said Seven was reluctant to invest any more money into the venture.

Seven pulling out of Presto could see the service become the first casualty of Australia’s digital streaming war. It is believed funds committed to the JV would last around three to six months if Presto aggressively invested in content and marketing to try to claw back the gap between itself and Stan and Netflix.

If the business was run conservatively the funds could be drawn out to a year, sources said.

From October 1, binge on silver screen screams; Saw (1-4), Alien (1-3) and The Last Witch Hunter, where it’s up to Vin Diesel to save humanity from the most horrifying witches in history. One, two, Freddy’s coming for you on October 28 with the entire collection of A Nightmare on Elm Street streaming just in time for Halloween.

Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg will have you swapping shrieks of terror for shrieks of laughter in the ultimate Dad vs. Step-Dad showdown, Daddy’s Home, streaming from October 2. STATEMENT REGARDING PRESTO TV

Foxtel and Seven West Media today announced that Foxtel will acquire Seven West Media’s interest in the Presto TV joint venture.

Tim Worner, CEO and Managing Director, Seven West Media, said: “We look forward to continuing to work closely with Foxtel, in particular in the creation of new programming content.”

Peter Tonagh, Foxtel CEO, said “It has been great working with the team at Seven on Presto and we look forward to future collaborations. We are delighted to be ableto offer Presto subscribers access to the new look Foxtel Play, which we know will be highly attractive to them."

From December 2016, Presto customers will be able to access the new Foxtel Play product.

Presto will cease on 31 January 2017.

Presto and Foxtel Play subscribers will have exclusive Australian access to two new Home and Away specials to be released this summer. The production of these Home and Away specials underlines the ongoing partnership between Foxtel and Seven West Media on content production for new consumer services.

Not surprising we’re seeing Presto out of the market soon with increased competition, especially from Stan who offered a superior offering from launch.

A rare defeat for Foxtel given its domination of pay TV market for nearly two decades.

I don’t think absorbing presto into the Foxtel brand is smart. A lot of people don’t like Foxtel and may find it confusing to differ the products.

Presto however is a poor service, I have a two month trial i am using exclusively for 30 Rock. It’s a truly poor service and it’s IOS app is riddled with bugs.

Good riddance

I don’t think you’ll find this to be an absorbing. They are two different services and the new Foxtel Play is no different. News sources are reporting that Presto is going to be shut down with focus on the new Foxtel Play product instead.

Foxtel Play is still going to be an IPTV service whereas Presto is a SVOD service. The SVOD part of Foxtel Play is only Foxtel Anytime which will only show programs within the subscribed Foxtel Play Package.

Looks like you’re right, which is a shame. I thought the services were being merged which would’ve been a good idea imo.

Presto failures: Too late in getting HD, a HBO deal without GoT (probably out of their control) and a FOX deal without Simpsons. Deserved to fail.

Telstra reps still spruiking Presto at a pop up stall in a shopping centre I was walking through at lunch time today. I wish I’d stopped to pick up some of their promotional material as a memento of the short lived service.

Should have said something to them…

Presto has been removed from the App Store

I AM surprised by this news, because Presto has a far superior library to Netflix which is stuck with providing third-rate no name movies nobody has heard of. I’m also surprised that Netlfix has far more subscribers than Presto.

Presto had a “far superior library” due to Foxtel’s agreements with the various movie studios. Meanwhile, Netflix has more subscribers due to the advantage they had of people being subscribers to the US service through VPN/DNS services for years before Presto & indeed Stan launched

Netflix movies aren’t the main reason for subscribers, it’s their original and exclusive content.

##foxtel invites Presto subscribers to join Foxtel Play

Presto customers can check out Foxtel Play for two weeks free, plus special migration offer

Foxtel today invited Presto subscribers to come and see what Foxtel Play has to offer with a two week free trial to Foxtel Play. The free trial is accompanied by three months of special pricing offered exclusively to Presto subscribers*.

Following the free trial, Presto subscribers will be able to subscribe to Foxtel Play’s Pop and Movies tiers for $15 per month for three months, discounted from its normal price of $35 per month, for a $60 saving over three months.

Foxtel’s move offers Presto subscribers a much more comprehensive selection of programming than their existing service. As Foxtel Play subscribers with the pop and movies tiers, they will have access to a vast collection of the most current movies available from all of the major Hollywood studios as well as a host of the most recent TV series, with many broadcast ‘Express from the US’; plus access to a constantly growing on demand library.

The Pop tier includes a raft of Foxtel’s most popular channels, with programs never before seen on Presto, including showcase, offering HBO’s critically acclaimed drama such as Game of Thrones (every episode), Westworld and Insecure, plus the newest series of Foxtel originals as they premiere like A Place to Call Home, Wentworth and more.
