Foxtel

It doesn’t, but you could join the chorus of tweets asking for the same thing.

The app itself works okay, aside from the occasional crash, but it causes my Mac to heat up and become unusable within minutes. A similar thing happens with Netflix, been told it’s something to do with Silverlight.

Comedy Channel, E!, MTV, CNN, Disney, uktv and Animal Planet are the main ones I can think of that needs to be in HD

I agree but I also dont see why they cant just makes all there channels HD now…

add TV Hits to that list please. Even 111

Bandwidth I suspect, and also that there is so many old mpeg2 boxes out there for SD.

Would love discovery science added to HD as well as all the above though!

Apparently all their +2 channels are popular, but use a significant amount of bandwidth. If they got rid of them they would have plenty for more HD. In this day and age HD should be the standard. I still turn to downloads for certain shows on comedy and other SD channels because SD is just nasty on a large screen these days!

I thought Foxtel had there own Bandwidth tho? And a lot of it? Enough to make all channels HD.

I will never understand how the +2 channels are popular as just about everyone who has foxtel these days can just record there shows on there IQ Box…or if they somehow forget to record it, watch/record the replay the next day…theres no excuses or reasons to have these +2 channels taking up valuable space.

They use an optus satellite for satellite transmission and bandwidth for that is probably costly I suspect.

Yeah+2 is popular because most people still don’t have a recording foxtel box it seems, their is a hell of a lot of the old SD boxes kicking about sadly. I suspect its too costly to upgrade all of those customers to an IQ box…I agree though thats what really needs to happen.

I imagine that +2 would be popular in WA as well.

Can’t you rewind up to 24 on any channel with the IQ3, replacing the need for +2? Maybe if that had a better roll out and uptake they may have been able to do away with some of the +2s for the sake of HD.

I agree but considerable cost involved in changing a large number of basic boxes too, that is probably why it isn’t happening. Hopefully with these restructures that are rumored maybe something may happen.

SBS2/viceland has the rights to this.

Matt Doran has signed with Foxtel to host season three of Crimes That Shocked Australia. The US show he hosted last year, Crime Watch Daily, will premiere on Foxtel on March 6. It’s not mentioned in the Daily Telegraph article but Doran has been relegated to a reporter on Crime Watch Daily with Chris Hansen being announced as the new host.

This is an interesting read. It also highlights the losses that Foxtel is making at the moment, more people walking away.

Still today I don’t understand why Foxtel, Murdoch, (who I thought would be aware of this), wouldn’t just offer a sports package, in which you just have the sports channels, nothing else. As Sport is the highest watched medium by Australiian’s (Nine News 2017, Feb 10 - Ross Greenwood).

It’s now going to be interesting watching the changing medium of Foxtel, the former owner of F1, bernie ecclestone, was caught short not understanding the new medium of specialised apps for boardcasting F1 and lost viewers cause of it. Murdoch doesn’t seem to understand the new age, look at what Telstra is doing with their app for NRL, AFL, and Optus with Optus sports. Oh interesting times.

This is 100% correct.
I have family and friends that would buy Foxtel just for the sport if the sport was offered as its own package, but refuse to buy it when sport has to be bundled with something else.

Therefore instead of getting say $25/month from people like this, Foxtel try to sign them up for two packages at a cost of for example $55/month and actually end up getting $0 from them.

Foxtel has to bundle sport with other packages otherwise it’s unviable. People on Basic+Sport should see it as paying for sport and getting basic for free. Foxtel should really try marketing it like that.

If they offered sport on its own you’d still be paying nearly the same price as now. Then they would really lose subscribers.

I come from a different view. If the sports package was reasonable, like the AFL app on Telstra, which if your not a Telstra customer you pay $16 permonth - than you could charge $20 just for sport. I have five mates, (including me) that would purchase that sports package without a doubt.

In the age of purchasing what you want and now the added bonus of mobile companies that offer the AFL app for free if your with Telstra. What incentive is there for me to purchase Foxtel? I have cricket and EPL via Optus sports (thanks to the other half mobile plan), and AFL via Telstra, in which I can connect to my 50inch screen with a super clear picture.

The idea of a basic set of programs plus sport is a 90’s idea, if Foxtel doesn’t move into user choice than it will be left behind as more sports move to app based boardcasting. In which sporting bodies control supply. Foxtel would make more money if they went down this path, only going into 3million homes under the current way. There is no doubt they could move into 10million homes if they moved over to a more modern way of Broadcasting. Netflix and Stan are providing a base program list, now we just need a new media company to provide a sports version and Foxtel will end or they will be forced to change.

The term bandied around the US market is ala carte, aka you choose what you want and pay for nothing else.

Absolutely think this should be what Foxtel does here.
